Has anyone talked to BMW about Seasucker racks? No doubt the rack can hold the stress, just not sure about the roof.

Bike Rack for CF Roof solution
Just saw this on instagram and thought I'd share it.
I haven't tried it myself and am not affiliated with the company, just wanted to share since I know roof racks + CF roofs were a topic of discussion before. https://instagram.com/sea_sucker/ |

I don't understand. Don't all F8x cars, regardless of roof type, come with slots for rack installation?

Really? That seems like an odd omission.

yup, just bought seasuckers from eBay last week after seeing the post below. It is the only bike rack alternative for those with cf roof.

I used mine for the first time last week on the f82. No problemsat all, though the character lines made things a bit more challenging. Keep the mounting surfaces clean and know where the cranks are before driving off.

For bicycles
Quick release the wheels. Place frame and wheels in trunk and maybe back seat. No roof racks, ever. Ever! Dear Freds. Do not use a bike rack on the M3/4. Yes, Freds, this means you. |

but after seeing countless horror images of cars with bikes in roof racks pulling into a garage, bank drive-thru, etc; I don't want to have that as a possibility, ever. my mountain bikes all have QR thru-axles, easy enough to pop off the wheels, stash the frame and wheels in the trunk (with back seats folded).

I've been using the SeaSucker Talon on the M4 with CFR since last July. Its best to mount one end to the rear window. The carbon fiber roof is flexible, so there's no way to prevent the bike from swaying a bit, but it works just fine. It doesn't leave marks on the roof, though your pedals may.
On long trips, or if you're feeling the need for speed, I'd stash the bike in the car...which is the beauty of the M4!!

Pretty cool to know that an option exists for us. I however would be pretty scared that the rack might rip right off the car at highway speeds!

Yeah, too afraid not having a mechanical connection to the roof. So this is likely what I'll end up doing with the fold down rear seats. Too bad they didn't "fix" the access to the CF roof mounting bolts.

What is the objection for people putting their bikes in the trunk/folded back seats? That is the most secure (won't be easily stolen w/o breaking the window, etc.), cheapest (cost nothing more), and safest (won't fly off the roof, hit your garage or low overhead parking structures, etc.)
Other than having to carry 2 bikes, it seems pointless to get a roof rack or bike rack of any kind. |

Or, I should ride my bike the 100+ miles to some of the triathlons I go to? Again, umm, ok. And I say this as someone who rides my bike into work 3-5 days a week (12 miles each way, not all that bad. Many people ride much further into work) Regardless, my solution to the bike rack issue was to install a trailer hitch and use a hitch mount bike rack: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1134961
