I took my M3 to the dealer shortly after taking delivery for this issue. While they never got an official answer from BMW, I was told they cleared a fault code and since then the issue has all but stopped. My M3 was delivered with the same or newer software version than what everyone references here (blue tint on the M HUD).

Thank you. Does your kick feature still work as before?

No it does not. It cannot work with the CF diffuser attached.

My trunk does this also. Rear diffuser is factory. When I first got my car I came outside after I thought I closed it and the trunk was wide open. I have to attempt to close it several times until it actually closes. There are a lot of
design flaws in this car. Seat light that cracks, hub issues, CCB brakes that catch rocks, trunk that doesn't shut, seats that can wear prematurely, exhaust rattle, interior noises. Not what you would expect from an 80k car. That shows BMW finish is slipping. This may be my last M. Considering trading for a P car in about a year.

Hard to explain but it was in the closed ? position and would not let the trunk close

It would close then pop up in a few seconds

So I spoke to someone at the service dept at my dealership and the guy told me that there was no software upgrades for the '16 m3's and that it's already upgraded to the latest software...? Seems like they've never heard of this issue. I'm going to try a different dealership.

I've noticed that mine has a tendency to do this as well, and I chalked it up to because I have a diffuser. But, it's only when I go to close the trunk when the doors were locked if that makes sense. If the doors were in the unlocked position, the trunk closes fine and stays closed...

Weird quirk but it is what it is...

That sounds right to me. I don't believe there have been any updates released for the MY16 cars yet. I would not expect almost any dealer to have heard of this issue because there's no advisory from BMW and it only happens with the MP diffuser or other 3rd party CF diffusers.

Is there any way to modify the function of the remote to a double consecutive press to open the trunk instead of single press? I feel like my trunk button gets pressed accidentally in my pocket. I've opened my garage in the morning twice with my trunk open wondering how the hell it happened.

You can manually lock the trunk and not have the remote or sensor work? Is this the glove box button? I might have to start doing this especially when I have thousands of dollars of camera equipment sitting in there.

Since August 2015, there has been few software updates and most recently one last week 58.3. BMW Software updates releases are not model/year specific, rather they release updates to whichever platform requires it as part of the same software package (psdZdata).

I had this issue. A wire was exposed and was intermittently triggering the latch mechanism. Make sure the hardware is ok.

Guys

Is software update fix to the issue still available, can you provide details?. Today after a long time had the trunk open in garage, am wearing jeans and key fob was in pocket, not sure if the trunk release key button got triggered or this is a real issue
