OP, you asked the wrong question of the wrong crowd....it just begs criticism. Just waiting for GrussGott to chime in....his will likely be a doozy.

My suggestion....get a belly ring, chain the remote to it, you're not likely to lose it, but if you do, you'll know it.

Actually, just tried mine. With one fob in the cupholder and one outside it will lock both with the fob and touching the door handle. That being said and as others have said, not a good idea to keep a spare in the car IMO.

Have it surgically sutured to your body.
Then have it programmed to lock when you fart and unlock when you cough. Easy peezy...

The car won't lock if there is a key fob inside and there is no key fob that the car can detect outside the car. If there is a key fob inside the car, you can lock the car by either using Comfort Access with a key fob in your pocket or by pressing the lock button on your key fob (because there is a key fob detected outside the vehicle).

I've gone out of town on trips by myself and taken my wife's key fob as a backup in case I lose my key fob (it happened once). I generally keep her key fob in my backpack, which is either behind my seat or in the trunk. It's no problem to lock the car using either method that I mentioned above.

The comfort access system is so smart that if the car is locked and you open the trunk using key fob A, either by using the trunk release handle or by pressing the trunk button on the key fob, you can put key fob B in the trunk and close it. However, if you open the trunk with key fob A, put key fob A in the trunk and try to close it, the car will beep and open the trunk.

I had the key to my 2006 Z4 M Roadster stolen once while out of town on a trip. The key was in my prized M jacket and I had taken the jacket off and hung it on the back of my seat at a bar/restaurant. I left to go to the bathroom and when I got back, our party was being moved to a table in the restaurant for dinner and I accidentally left my jacket sitting on the chair. After dinner I realized what I had done, looked for the jacket, but it was gone, along with my car key. Fortunately, the car was still there. The only thing that saved me was the thin plastic spare key that BMW used to provide on earlier cars, which was in my wallet. I was able to use key that to unlock and start my car until my wife joined me a couple of days earlier and brought the other key. That's why we both always take a spare key fob with us. And now I always keep my car key/key fob in the pocket of my pants.

This is an excellent summary - I've done this as well for various reasons with luggage, etc.

lol at keeping the spare key inside the car. Reminds me of scenes in movies where someone is trying to take a car, they flip down the sun visor and lo and behold the keys fall out.

I needed to leave my car locked at the airport while I left the country and my brother was flying in to stay at my house. I wrapped a key in foil and put it in the glovebox and locked the car. He used the app to remote-unlock the car, got the key and drove off. He dropped it off at the airport with the key again wrapped in foil in the glove compartment and used the app to lock it. Worked great.

Meh.. OPSEC aside, it kinda defeats the point of being secure when your registration and insurance card in the glove box most likely have your address on them. I have insurance for a reason. Steal my car, head to my house, break in and set off the alarm all while being on camera in almost every inch of my house. Then enjoy trying to leave while the cops are pulling in and my gun toting neighbor is armed waiting on the police to arrive because the 120db siren has been going off in my home.

In georgia registration is just a sticker on the license plate. Insurance is virtual on my phone

Here in Nevada we also have a sticker, but you are supposed to carry the paperwork the sticker came on in the glove box so they know you didn't peel someone else's off of their car. I use the online insurance card, but keep a hard copy as well in the event Im out in the desert with no service and I don't want to flip through my dick pics with the cops watching because all I have is a screenshot.

Thats interesting. When cops stop me here, they just ask for my drivers license. They dont ask for anything else. Guessing they have the rest of the info in their systems, which would be logical.

BTW each FOB is $500. I put a label on the back that says $50 reward with my cell.
You know that the car won't lock with a key inside right?

Very bad idea for many different reasons

you'll drain the vehicle battery due to comfort access recognizing the fob is within range...

Ahhh, this takes me back.

I use to keep a spare key in a magnetic hide-a-key box stuck to the frame of my old pickup truck back in high school. When I would head to the beach to surf I would just lock my wallet, keys, etc in the truck and go surf. When I came back I would use the hidden key to unlock my truck and go home. Never worried about losing my stuff. (unless someone found the key and then I was f**ked)

Those were the days...

Here they ask for license, insurance, registration. With 4 states within an hour of Las Vegas we have a lot of stolen cars driving around town and a lot of out of state warrants driving them.

Bury it in a time capsule in a secure location. Maybe one of your neighbours yards when they aren't looking? Whatever you do don't hide the fob in the dogs food dish!
