Race Ramps

Hi All -

With our M3 and before with our 135i, we were 'okay' with the ramps we had with our trailer. The 135i was a short car that wasn't really that low, so it got onto the lift okay. And the M3's splitter just makes it into the trailer just barely touching the rear door on the way in.

But once we got the M4, which is much longer and lower than the 135i, we've had issues getting it onto the lift without scraping the bottom of the car. Here's the issue:

Short lift ramps with steep angle of approach

You can see where we've scraping the front of the lift

And the rear door ramps don't elevate the rear door

Here was one solution we tried with a bunch of lumber. 2x12 ramps with more wood supporting

But if you don't support them well enough, one potential problem with wood ramps is pretty evident

It was getting to be just a bigger and bigger hassle. More wood to 'stilt' and angle the lift, etc. Got to the point, where in addition to the heavy wood ramps we built, we were taking a shopping bag of wood pieces to put under everything. Enough was enough. Decided to try Race Ramps

https://raceramps.com/

First solution is RR-EX-PPS Portable Pit Stop Ramp Extenders to help elevate the transition ramp onto the lift. They turn the short lift ramps into longer ones.

As for the rear door elevation and ramp length, bring in RR-TR-11-2 11', 2 piece ramps.

Raised the rear door from 3" to 9" off the ground

You can see that they almost double the length of the original ramps and how they decrease the angle of approach

The whole setup

For me to have set all this up with wood ramps would have been painstaking and very heavy

I have a set of RR-56-2 56" two-piece RaceRamps in my garage. Great for oil changes and working underneath the car. When I installed my MPE, I backed my car up on the RaceRamps which allowed me to get under the car all the way back to the cut points.

With the two-piece ramps, if I need to do more extensive wheel/brake/suspension work, I can drive the car up on the RaceRamps, then jack up the car with a floor jack and remove the ramp portion to place jack stands and then remove the RaceRamps. I've used other solutions, including home-made 1x12 planks to get my Z4 M Roadster up high enough to get a jack underneath, but this is just better.

I'm still thinking about getting the QuickJack though.

Do you have pics of your setup?

They are going to save us so much time at the track, I can't wait to get there.

Each piece is rated for 1500 lbs. So with one axle on two pieces, you have half a car on 3000 lbs. worth of ramp rating

I don't have a "setup", I just line them up on the garage floor when I need them! I need to find a way to store them and get them out of the way when they're not in use.

Just bought the 56" two piece design which are replacing an old set of 36" Rhino ramps. Going to need these as I'm installing the MPE lip this weekend.

We finally got suspension on the M4 and ready to take a race car up the ramps. You can see how much clearance we have now for the splitter on the rear door. They worked awesome with no drama getting the car on of off the lift. I was a little worried the lift ramp 'helpers' would move around more than they did, but they pretty much stayed in place.

Good clearance going up the lift ramp 'helpers'

How they stow with just 1 car on the lift

Thanks - I haven't gotten a very specific max. pressure for the foam other than it's 1500 lbs. per 1 tire contact patch (which can have a wide range).

But I was told that rolling something like a big heavy tool box (which can have a high pressure due to the small contact area) might leave impressions on them.

I hate how my picture links change in Facebook, so now the thread has no pics.

At our recent trip to Cal Speedway, a neighbor borrowed our 11 ft. 2-piece ramps to get a 135i off a trailer
