Ha! - GG, you know better man - you're just in denial

Have to say that I also have numerous small knicks on my windshield - one larger pebble from one of the endless bloody construction trucks here in Houston made an horrendous crack but weirdly minimal damage. Going by the density of these on the windscreen I have to say that the Xpel full cover of the front half of my car has already paid for itself - I can occasionally tell too where larger chips have hit it (bit of heat gun and they self-heal which is extra cool!).

I'm going to look into the ClearPlex stuff right now!

I had Clearplex on my M4 windshield. It definitely protects your windshield well but it will pit with each impact and is not self healing. As much as they want to convince you it's "clear", there will be minor distortion compared to normal glass which is worse at night and in my opinion was a little too annoying or distracting over time to make it worth putting on my next car. Just my 2 cents.

Can't you add additional glass insurance to your coverage?
I remember asking for my 5 and the broker told me about $50 a year additional with a $0 deductible.

I have found after having Clearplex on four different vehicles that the installer's knowledge/care when installing the product is everything. If it's installed without meticulous attention to removing imperfections, then the result is not great. If care is taken, and hopefully it's installed in warmer weather, then it can be difficult to tell its applied. Granted there may be small areas that aren't optically 'pure' when viewed from the inside, but I've never noticed it caused any issue when driving.

Hey Bish,

I'm sure you are right. I didn't have the best experience with my installer. Maybe I'll consider it again in the future with a different installer.

That is a crazy amount of cracks for this car. So the clearplex with proper installation won't affect much of the night vision?? This might be a deal break if it has too much glare issue or affect HUD

Thats probably my #1 concern i.e. does it at all effect the viability of the HUD display? Given it is applied to the exterior surface perhaps not but would be good to hear from those that have it with the HUD.

Also have to say I am pretty damn picky in respect having optically clear glass so not 100% sold on this stuff yet - found an installer close to me and will drop by at some point, maybe this weekend, to discuss further with the owner.

I just added full glass $0 deductible for about $200/year.

Hm, I'll find out this week how much it would cost me and get back with a number.

Yeah +1 ... at what point do you just put a plastic sheet over your car and close the garage forever?

That said, I am a bit picky about my glass and I've used Diamondite for years and it's always made my windshield crystal sparkly smooth and clear.

I do not like bras of any kind ... even tops are bad. Put 'em down and let it all hang out!

Windshield replacement

Has anyone had to replace their M4 windshield and what was the cost?

Does it have to be replaced at the dealer or would Safelite be able to do it?

And has anyone ever heard of a windshield cracking for no reason.

I searched without much luck.

I don't have M4, but had my f30 windshield replaced on Friday. I'm in Florida where it's free. $0 out of pocket. It took about 2 hours and they came to my house to do it.
Just make sure it's an OEM windshield. Good luck.

Its just glass guys. No reason for these to be expensive. Believe they are the same as the regular 3 series and 4 series.

The only one that i could see costing more is the heads up display , unless thats just a mirrored image from the console.

Plus if you know someone in the biz, then you can get it at cost and get free install. lol

Yeah, you're right. All OEM BMW parts are cheap.

Had it replaced at Safelite. They had it in stock, took 2 hours. I don't have HUD, that would be more expensive but I'm not sure how much more.
