A few comments from a 2x Sakhir Orange owner . . .

If you like your color, that's all that's important. Full stop. I can never understand why someone buys a $70 or $80k car while thinking about what someone else wants.

I love having a car that no one else has. There's nothing worse to me than being one of the crowd, being average.

I had three people come up to me on the street - THIS MORNING ALONE - and tell me how much they love my SO M4.

With all that said, re-selling a unique car can be a two-edged sword. I've had experience selling two "unique" cars - one an MT S4, and one an SO M5. What I found is that the market is obviously more limited, so you may have to wait a little longer to find the right buyer. But when that right buyer comes along, they'll pay top dollar because (by definition) the inventory of cars that they want is limited. The young guy who bought my S4 flew to Boston from Florida because I had exactly what he wanted. He paid me asking price and drove it home. Similar story with my SO M5, but that guy only drove up from New York for the car!

I got an M car so I wanted an M car color. I picked SO because I wanted it not because I care what other people think about it.

The value of color is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. For me it was an easy decision to get what I wanted. If I wanted to satisfy a larger audience I would gone generic black, white etc...

Same here, I got nothing but compliments from kids to grandmas. People just love this colour. Please don't "subdue" anything...the colour and the car go hand in hand. Enjoy it and fk the haters!

Wrap it or enjoy it in the nude.

Forget everybody else.

Let the haters hate. Perhaps social media has warped people's minds to the point where they feel blurting out any little negative opinion is normal social behavior.

Keep your car as is, no wrap. Its a beautiful color and indeed may have additional value in the future, but most important, value to you now and perhaps even more so in the future. Don't get rid of it just because of these stupid externalities and regret it later in life.

Before buying my AY M4, a lot of my friends told me to go with another color.
Personally, I like the color so I still bought the car. I've received a lot of compliments because of the color.

In this day and age, I've learned to not pay attention to the "haters", there will always be one and you can't please everybody. Just do you.

I was thinking about wrapping the car to make it a little more subdued, but really don't like the finish of the wraps I've seen (plus, some wraps are even louder). So my next thought was to just repaint the car. However, a few folks have suggested that since it was the release color for the M4, I should keep it the same color.

Anyone have experience with resale of vehicles painted in the brighter colors like this? Does having a unique color help or hurt? Would repainting it a color like Azurite Black help or hurt? I wouldn't think it wouldn't matter, but I have zero experience with this sort of thing.
If you like it who cares. Def do NOT repaint you will kill resale value, and an aftermarket paint may never look as good as factory. Better off just trade in / buy another car.

Relative to your original question, BMW is already telling us what the value of color is given the colors they sell standard. That is, there's a reason that BMW sells what they do (black, white, grey) and two F8x M-specific colors: they'll be able to move more cars, faster and they have the data and experience to prove it.

That said, AY is going to fall into that super desired or hated category, meaning harder to sell quick, but you could get a premium for it.

As for what others think, we all care about that because human, so it's dumb to pretend otherwise.

As I've gotten older it's not that I care less, but these days I separate "me" from my trivial choices (like car color), and I'm more comfortable with my idiosyncrasies because, like nipples, everyone has them. Sure, they may not like AY, but then they're fucking that ugly hag standing next to them.

And hey, forget car color: your entire car is a fucking ridiculous expense, you insecure planet-hating mucho douchebag.

And since I'm feeling philosophical, ever read All Quiet on the Western Front? Remember how they get post-embarrassed about shitting in front of each other and actually build portable shiter chairs so they can arrange them in a circle and play cards and shit together?

Yeah, kinda like that.

Since blue is my favorite color, I am compelled to seek out a blue color for my BMW, but I have never seen an M4 look better than in Austin Yellow. It brings out the lines and curves of the M4 more than any other color I've seen, and makes it look exotic. If you like the way it looks in AY, then what else matters? It's a bold and unique color that BMW selected as its launch for the M4, and you can bet they did that for a reason.

Some people say they hate the red Ferrari...
I think Austin Yellow is one of the best color in M3.
I like my Silverstone M4 and some are saying its boring color, but I don't care

Forget what people tell you. Try not to let it get to you. You have a pimp color and if you love it then that's all that matters.

Color will always be subjective when you go for something out of the ordinary. In some cases it can hurt you, in others it can help you.

I think it's pretty much the universal opinion not to repaint your car. Wrapping, I guess could be a possibility if you want to go that route as a non permanent option that could freshen up the look and won't really effect resale.

Ultimately, what you only need to concern yourself with is your own happiness. If other people's comments are getting to you (and we are all human and as social beings we do care regardless of what we portray) then you just have to decide the best move for you.

Good news is you have options. You can buyout your lease like you planned because you love your car, or you can simply return it and walk away and order/ lease another one in a different color. Just comes down to what you want to do.

While I thnk AY is disgusting painting over the factory paint would be even worse.

From my extensive M3/M4 buying and selling experience the YMB and AY cars seem to sell for a bit less at dealers than more traditional colors.

My SO car sold like a hotcake at market value.
