I don't miss it
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com I bought myself an E46 ZHP and figured I'd be bored and it would feel archaic but in all honesty, I love it. Its not fast. In fact, it's slow in comparison to my F80, but it has the charm that the new cars lack. It feels like a tank, it handles incredibly well, its not as harsh to live with as a daily driver, and most of all feels alive and not like a computer. I was never wowed like I thought I would be with the F80... I wanted one forever, I guess I could now say I had one. Let the bashing begin - the "who cares" and "why don't you post in the E46 forum?" |

Not hating on you, but working for any car would almost make me hate it right off the bat.
If I had to stretch financially for any car I would be a bad situation all around. |

I still have both my old E46 330i and F80. I have to admit, each time I drive the old car, it puts a smile on my face. The steering feel is more direct and you're more connected to the road. The F80 is better in every way but that.

I could totally see myself feeling that way if I hadn't ever tracked my car. It was becoming just a car. Tracked it, and totally changed my perspective. Been doing it ever since |

Completely burdened with my M financially. Was a poor decision to buy and modding is too expensive. Work my ass off for it every month...
But you'd have to pry the keys out of my cold dead hand, it's the best car I have ever (and possibly will ever) owned. |

OP: I genuinely like (most of) your post and I'm glad you're happy with your new ride! I'm not one to take on a financial burden, and I love cars - so in turn I like to drive a car that I love.
I'd just leave out the "let the bashing begin" part. People post here with all sorts of different cars and opinions. No need to invite hostility. |

can only do so many of the same 160 limiter pulls before it yawns.. It does everything well nothing exceptional but thats how I define my experience with the entire generation I've owned.

That's true, but I view it instead as doing everything exceptionally. Cars that outperform the M likely can't haul 2 kids and groceries.

I can add that I didn't track my car, so I certainly missed out on that experience. I would imagine in that capacity the car would have been a blast. I couldn't justify tracking it for the expense of tires and beating on a brand new car. Maybe new tires after a track event should be expected; I got 17k miles out of mine. I certainly had my fun and know very well what the car is capable of, but realistically, its too much for regular road duty. Then comes the 340I debate, but I honestly don't like it. It does not feel special AT ALL...I would much prefer the feel of my 07 335i. I believe the F80 was/is as good as it gets for a new car, but I guess I'm now living in the past, preferring the "feel" and value proposition of older vehicles.

I agree with OP...my F80 that I sold was an incredible car in so many ways...I just didn't connect to it for some reason. Now, I daily a GTI (which I just love) and my weekend toy is an e46m3...could not be happier. Spending less per month vs the F80 for two cars and having an absolute blast.

Actually OP, congratulations to you! You recognized that you over-extended yourself on the car, fixed that issue and replaced it with one of BMW's most balanced cars ever. Overextending financially on anything is bad, but overextending on a (rapidly) depreciating asset like a new car (most of them anyway) is the worst.
Enjoy the ZHP! Whenever I drive my E39 M5 or Z4M coupe, which are significantly slower than the M3, I can't get over how great these cars are, even this many year later. I consider the E39/E46 era a high water mark for BMW. If I wasn't out of garage space (the SUV already sits outside), I'd add a E39 530 5-MT in a heartbeat. I think that was the most balanced car I have owned...

I had a 2004 330i ZHP with leather interior. My wife and I were talking about it the other day and saying that it was one of the best cars we ever owned. It was a great car.

I sort of agree oddly.
If you own something and it is becoming more of a chore/work than it is to have fun with it, then it is no longer something worth really... well working towards. Thumbs up for the realization

My wang still feels the need to fully elongate every time I drive my M3 after 19 months of ownership. No joke!
Glad you found something you like this time.
