A buddy and I took my car down some back roads for a couple hours yesterday. I was smiling ear to ear when behind the wheel and sweating when my friend drove. I trust him but you feel so helpless when you're not the one driving. He said he felt the same when I drove. Anyway, First time driving car the way it's meant to be driven. I love this damn car!
Also decided I wanted to try launch control. Tried it four times but launch control was not activating. Couldn't understand why. Thought maybe the car was too hot or something because we had just been driving it pretty hard. Went home and watched a couple videos and immediately realized our mistake. I was leaving it in auto instead of sequential. Reason I left it in auto was because my last car a 2016 328i Msport had launch control and I didn't have to put car in sequential/manual mode for it to activate. Figured like my last car, it had to stay in auto because it's doing the shifting for you as youre accelerating. Well, I had to try it right away. This time I went alone and I didn't want to drive 30 minutes to those back roads we were going to so I found a spot two blocks from the house. It worked on first try. I was pretty confident it was going to work so I decided to turn on Laptimer just to see what I would get. I was pretty nervous because now I have to look out for cops etc. I was also very worried I would do a big burn out and not go anywhere. Soon as I saw the flag I started clicking down the cruise control to lower the RPM however I don't remember seeing it drop or hearing it but I think I was very distracted at this point. I just remember reading about all the traction issues so that's what I did. There was a split second delay and OFF I went, car took off!! After the adrenaline wore off I remembered that I turned on Laptimer. I know these numbers don't mean anything in the real world but I'm not going to lie, it made me smile and I definitely sent it to a few friends of mine not bad for my first time.

Being in sequential mode, did the car upshift for you, or did you have to use the paddles to switch gears?

Yes it will upshift for you as long as launch control is activated

That's a pretty good result for a first attempt at using Launch Control

ZKing1208 Good job for a first timer! Come to Sacramento Raceway on April 28th for Test and Tune. You'll be able to test launch control as many times as you want there without having to worry about the law

I recall seeing a warning in the technical manual about launch control causing premature wear? Anyone know how hard it truly is on the car? IE: Slightly worse than taking off at a light, or GTR glass tranny?
