Doesn't matter anyway since the M brand that came out with the E30 M3 is dead.

I don't care what people say... I think it is so gay for them to rename the M3. There was SO much tradition and history behind that name! It is a big time brand name and an icon for BMW cars now and I feel like its being thrown away.

I just don't like that they are following the roots of what Audi are doing. Whoever is stupid enough to not understand the difference from a Coupe and Sedan doesn't deserve to drive a BMW. I mean do they have to have different number series to determine the difference between a coupe and sedan?

Everything was just fine with having 3 Series Coupe and 3 Series Sedan.

Yes I don't like the change. /end rant

The sedan is a better car anyways. I think you'll see more four door m cars when these come out instead of their coupe counterparts. I'm excited for the m2 more as that's going to be the closest thing to the e46. Also liking the idea of an m2gc with xdrive!

BMW answers your rant with "this version of the motorsports coupe is more of an evolution and not just a new m3 two door. We felt calling it the m4 displays this"

Translated: Audi was able to get away with charging more for less doors. Why can't we?

But we don't even know if BMW is even going to charge a greater premium than what already exists with the E90/E92. If BMW stays with the E90/E92 price structure (where the difference isn't that large), there would be no reason to even change the name because everything would remain the same from the E90 and E92. Still too early to guess anything.

At the end, whatever happens, it's going to be a surprise or even more frustration/confusing. Either there will be a huge price hike resulting in further anger or price remains the same and we all sit here thinking "well what was the point of renaming?".

BINGO! Instead of making the existing models better, BMW is diluting the brand by making too many models to sell more cars and in the process is making their cars "softer"

"M4 Carbine" is the first thing I thought of when I saw the name.

Even our beloved company is adjusting to time. Time will tell what will become of these high performance cars.

As much history as the M3 has, the 3-series in general has even more. Ironically, the first 3-series (E21) was only offered as a coupe, which makes the new nomenclature even more confounding. But we'll get used to it, no doubt.

No doubt with time u need to change.
Now since 2 door coupe will be M4, will 2 door convertible be called M3.5.......lol.
The other day I read an article on some Audi RS which is coming with V8, the article was like Audi showing finger to the whole world with V8...atleast they showed a finger to BMW M3-4 which is going I6 n no more NA.
Too many turbos will lead to more maintenance and hence lesser resale value.

Why do people say BMW is following Audi in rebadging sedans/coupes? The newer generation 6-Series(a 2-door 5 series basically) came out in 2003 (not to mention the first generation from the 80's) and a move to 3/4-series rebadging has been discussed for years already. The Audi A5 came out ony in 2007.
