I think Steve Sutcliffe needs go on a joyride with Chris Harris. How could one reviewer like Sutcliffe not praise the same car that Harris gushes about? I know opinions are varied by each reviewer but it's just a stark contrast between the two...

On at rate, good stuff

I have *owned* both and I disagree with you wholeheartedly.

Several other reviewers have lauded the M4's steering accuracy but do say you cannot feel the road as much as the prior hydraulic gens. Harris opinion differs from equally credible reviewers. Also in his testing notes he does criticize the road feel, as well as those in the prior gens.

On another note, seems like his new reviews on Drive are more about getting the message clear and across, which I think works for the better. On a lot of the older reviews you almost hear him almost debating with himself.

Great review as always from harrismonkey.

I've only driven e9x's and I think those are amazing, I can't even imagine how this car feels

I think Harris took so long to review the new M3 because he was waiting for a big fat check from BMW

I mean look at the response in this thread alone lawl, his opinions mean a lot to enthusiasts

Not bashing or hating, just stating my observation

Maybe 3 hours of total content a month, and I'm skeptical of even that. Even so, I only watch Chris Harris on cars and he puts out one 7-15 min video every week. I know he's put out more so far on drive plus but that's because it's new and they're trying to convince people to sign up as well as the fact that they have been off for quite some time and have built up a good amount of footage.

I may be wrong but either way I don't see myself paying the $4 a month.
Okay, well assuming an average 10 minutes of Harris content per week, at 40 minutes a month, is a whopping single dollar per 10 minutes. That's a gallon of gas or a drink at the bar. If it's not worth it to someone then that's cool, I just hope that those people don't end up viewing the content without supporting. That's just low.

I do think that people put way too much emphasis on his opinions. He always has a great view to provide, but there are others out there. Not sure how the nut hugging came about.

Chris seems really in love with this car and having driven this fine machine on track and street I have to agree. In the end nothing really new and about what I expected.
It's worth noting that he also owned an E92 M3.
And a C63 507 Estate.

The one thing that fascinated me about the E9x was its legendary V8 engine, the rest was original but nothing that would have kept me interested that much. The F8x is just much better in every category except for sound. It was kind of my dream to drive an exotic high-revving V8 like the one in the E9x. For the past 2-3 years, my only desire has been to drive a V8 and if it's available in M3 form, then heck I'll enjoy my E9x for a couple of years before I pick up an M4. The only bummer is that I'd be getting the same generation car as the one I've been driving for the past 5 years.

The E46 didn't suddenly become a piece of crap when the E9X came out, it's still a great car even today. Nothing about the F8X dimishes the E9X's accomplishment's either. The sour grape conglomerate and the butthurt white knight brigade are both equally pathetic. You are all losers.

Anyway, great review from Harris, from the look on his face, he must have gone through at least three pairs of pants due to "happy accidents". Too bad the review wasn't longer. Now to swiftly cancel before the trial period expires!
My thoughts exactly on the steering, and while it's only one mans opinion the fact that he owned an E92 M3 gives this more credibility than some other reviewers. Nice to see that my 'fanboy' opinion is shared by one of the most respected car journalists and drivers out there

Well, speed alone can't be the deciding factor, since more speed can be had out of the E9X for less money. I would imagine people are buying the car for the whole package of latest tech and convenience features, great performance with decent fuel economy, and aesthetic appeal. You know, like every previous car.

True. Speed is important but like you said it's everything else that is slightly better that makes this car worth upgrading to. There are compromises and if someone told me I had to keep my E90 M3 I would not be devastated as I love that car but the new F80 is just as much fun to drive ( not more fun) but the rest of the package make it a much more complete machine.

It's funny if someone comes w a bad review of the car everyone on this form trashes the car and when someone comes w a good review of the car everyone praises the car.

really? same goes for any car if you put enough money in it.

off the floor, in stock form, it blasts the e92. no debate needed.

throwing in mods etc muddies the waters and is 100% irrelevant for most buyers as mods cost money which you don't get back, cause complications, make the car less DD'able, aren't under warranty, etc...

Settle down, pumpkin, no one is bashing your dreamcar. You are among the most defensive people with the new car, and you don't even own one. It's more than a little sad.

I was in fact saying there is far more to the car than just faster times on the stat sheet. The comment I was responding to made it sound like the only reason they were getting the new car is because it was faster. A supercharger (one currently on sale for $6K including tune) will give you a faster car. We can argue modded vs. stock, modded vs. modded, etc. all day long, but at the end of the day, there is no replacement for displacement. And really, if you want all the speed you can get for $80K, you should be shopping for a GTR.

Who is Chris Harris?
Why do we have to listen to this dude?
Does anyone here care enough to explain without being obnoxious?
