Intro...Audi B8.5 S4 to 2017 F80 M3 MG/SO
Just a little introduction to the community...coming from the Audi scene and now looking to get into something a little more fun! Definitely enjoyed my time in the S4 and learned a ton about the modding scene. I've been stalking this forum the past couple of weeks and also learned a lot here too. Anyways, on to the particulars and looking forward to contributing!
Yesterday and today... Looking to stay stock for the most part, but some things I've been looking to do are:
Looks like flash tunes haven't been sorted yet and folks are happy with the piggybacks. On the S4's it was the other way around. In any case, I think I'm okay with keeping the engine stock....for now, lol. Last edited by ptper; 08-16-2017 at 12:38 PM.. |

I'm another former S4 owner. The M3 definitely is more of a true sports car than the S4. That being said, I think that for 98% of the populous, the S4 is the better car. In fact, I think that you can make the argument that the S4 is the best all-around sports sedan on the market today. The M3, though, has sated my desire to move to something like a 911 (for the time being).

Congrats, you will love that M3. I actually sold my 6MT F80 for a 2016 S3 and I adore it. It's a monster off the line and super fun daily.
However, I REALLY regretted my decision. I had to have another, but this time with a DCT, ZCP and of course ED! Can't wait to get back into another M. Audi's are nice, but they are not an M. Having both is nice though!

completely agree with everyone's sentiment. I came from an S4 as well. the M3 is a very different car. I find it to be much more focused on performance driving. In the S4 it was easy to forget what car you were in, it behaves so well as just another luxury sedan until you get on it. The M3 doesnt let you forget as easily the steering is heavier, the chassis transmits a lot more information. it's a big step up in my opinion.

Former B8 s4 owner here as well. I truly feel in stock form the S4 leaves a lot to be desired. I wasn't overly impressed with my Audi until installed an APR tune, Alu Kreutz, Eurocode end links, sway bar and an AWE exhaust. Once all that is done it was a fun car (still very heavy) but in stock form the damn thing was about as vanilla as it gets with no real character.
I crossed shopped an S3 with the M3 but in the end the M3 is a way sharper, more potent car. If you like to race people at stop lights in the rain then sure the Audi would be a better car, but you're comparing a FWD based Haldex fake quattro system with a properly sorted RWD sports car. I also felt it I was to buy the S3, it was such a lateral move from the S4 that it didn't make any sense to switch cars in the first place. |

The Avant... that's a different story. I love the Audi Avants, and if an RS4 came back as an Avant... look out.

Plus for $370 you can buy a plug-n-play JB1 piggyback that makes the car run low 12s @110-114, all else being stock. The FWD biased Haldex is actually quite good. The handling is great and I love the steering. Fun car, but doesn't hold a candle to the F80/82.

The S4 is a great DD. That being said, for the price it's more comparable to a 340i, which are both great DD sport sedans.

^^^ For some reason people like to sometimes compare the S4 to the M3. I think part of the reason is that a lot of people just look at 0-60 times without understanding how shallow that number is, and how little it tells you about a cars overall performance. I've had to remind several people in real life that the S4 and M3 are not competitors, there is definitely confusion here amongst casual car people. |

I understand these guys owned the S4 and swith to the M3. So I understand where they are coming from. What I would like is to hear from someone who owned or have driven a RS5. I'm curious to hear there comparison.
