I ran my car last night and after I did a pull the right exhaust caught fire. I cut the engine and the flames cut off. I started the car back up and it struggled to start and idled really rough with lots of smoke coming from both exhausts. I had to drive it about 10 miles home and it had absolutely no power, and felt very clunky but no engine light or drivetrain malfunction. I pull the plugs and cylinder 1 plug looked like it had some oil on it and the rest looked like the plug in the second pic. I then look under the car and there is oil coating the exhaust on the outside, leaking from the front turbo donut gasket. There was also a little bit of oil in the front turbo charge pipe. Not really sure what to do next.

perhaps the back pressure forced the flame back through the cylinders and cooked all the gaskets in between....
are you full modded? running meth?

Just downpipe, intake and full e85 tune. I'm thinking it's a valve seal because the fouled plug is just in cylinder 1, sending oil through the exhaust.

I know what you should do.

Revert back to stock and bring it to the dealer. Seems like that's what everyone tries to pull these days..

You probably ran too much boost and blew something man.

It's running about 26psi midrange and 20psi top end so idk if that did it. There's guys pushing them much harder and pure turbos even more so. I wanna know how so much oil got in the exhaust to cause a fire

Honestly it's really hard to cause a fire in that fashion too. I'm glad it didn't do any damage to the rest of your car..

If I had to guess it has to do w/ the turbo itself. Run a compression check on the engine in case any valves got bent when oil got sent back into the intake. If you can get to your turbos, take a look at the impellors and see if there's any oil in there and spin them freehand too.

It burnt the paint on the bumper but that's the least of my concern right now. If oil was sent into the intake tract would it have not fouled other plugs as well and not just one?

Overboost could have damaged one of the piston rings and allow blowby now too. That's another culprit :/

Yeah there's really so many possibilities. I'm having someone look and it and I'll give an update. Hoping it's just a seal

Have them boroscope that number #1 hole and see if there's damage to the piston top too. Good luck man!!

Oil in that charge pipe is on so many S55s and N55s. Its just blow by from the crankcase and you could add a catch can. To me this looks like an oil leak at the turbo. Might be time to go PS2!

Def not blow by:

why is only Spark plug #1 full of oil when the others all clean
if it a turbo it will be on all cylinders as either of the 2 turbo's joins into one charge cooler and 1 common intake.

as much as we dont want it to be, reality is the oil is coming either from bottom (piston) or top (head, valves etc).

strange as the s55 has proven to be rather stout and handle boost well.
I really hope it nothing serious!
Good luck with the diagnosis bud.

Ok so it was tuned by F80Paul. This is the exact reason why a log of this tune was requested in that world record thread.

Paul's tunes are NOT safe and this is an example.

I clearly remember the op telling me 'Don't blow your motor up trying to catch up to me' when we were trying to look out after him.

Any who, I feel bad but this motor is toast.

You’re so quick to blame with zero evidence of anything. Slow your roll and let him diagnose it first. You do know cars can and do have issues even stock right? Relax

Well said chewbakam4, M3LOLJK is an internet Mechanic didn't you know.

I highly doubt tune is related.
but lets wait and see what the outcome is.

I don't even think he cares about discovering the root cause. The ulterior motive was clear when his initial contribution (or lack thereof) to this thread started with the word, "ouch". He simply saw an opportunity to add salt to the wound due to what was said by OP to him in the past. It's also much easier to kick someone while they're down. That seems to be the way some people prefer to treat community members around here, which is zero respect.

Hehehe you guys right. I would love to see how that piston looks right now.

I'm far from a mechanic but if you know what you're looking at, its easy to determine what happened. Just look at the timing in the log and you'll know what happened.
