Matte paint - mistake?

Thinking about a new car in black and matte wrap seems popular but not matte paint. Anyone have exp with a matte paint car? I heard somewhere it is a disaster to care for. Thoughts?

I see several in matte that seem to not be selling and are a bit cheaper than competitive metallic or solid colors..

Matte paint requires specialized products and a good sealant. You will also need to use a detailer who is familiar with the finish or learn to perform proper washes with the products yourself. Deep scratches are generally the only real issue but really no more than other finishes. In my opinion people might be hesitant to buy a car with a painted matte finish due to concerns about caring for it or it may be viewed as somewhat trendy with a smaller segment willing to buy on resale

Matte paint scares me because you can't polish it if there is a scratch. Other than that, it seems easier to care for than regular paint. But who doesn't get scratches on a daily driver over years of use?

We have sold a bunch over the years and the customers who I stay close with who have them actually say they are not bad at all to take care of and really dont have any issues. I personally am more into reg paint but I must say frozen colors look a LOT better in person then they do in pics.

BOOM

Exactly this. I saw a M4 GTS with swirls like crazy and it simply just made the car look bad

Matte paint can be wrapped with Matte film (Stealth) and looks great, it also gives it a silky feeling. You can also coat a Matte paint finish. As stated. The only real issue is the deep scratches that cannot be polished out. If you have the matte film though, scratches are reduced.

I think a Matte paint with a high gloss PPF on top would be the best option.......

Agreed!

Something like the m4gts should receive a full body Matte ppf film wrap done. Why? Because its going to protect the whole car and it will keep it all looking uniform and how it should!

Imagine a ton of rock chips on a matte paint job. the re-spray will more than likely never look perfect, and it will lower the resale value of the car. BUT, a complete full body wrap will preserve the factory paint and keep the value up.

Problem is, you just need to find a shop that will do things right and not cut corners with matte film. Some areas cannot be wrapped, so a very tight trim is necessary.

The complete opposite. I have frozen black and is the easiest to care for. I had the complete front and doors wrapped in Xpel stealth for a year before I decided to finish it off and have the rest wrapped. Reason was the contrast difference between the wrapped and unwrapped bothered me. The wrap or unwrapped rear never got any swirls during regular washes. I used the BMW matte paint wash given to me when I bought the car and the standard costco microfiber cloths. In between washes I used a waterless wash spray and wipe down with this microfiber (https://www.carpro-us.com/microfiber...range-24-x-16/). The beauty about matte paint or wrap for that matter is no swirl marks and the car never really looks dirty.

i originally wanted factory Frozen.... but decided to stick with gloss paint and just fully wrapped in Xpel Stealth instead so i can switch back to gloss if I ever get tired. It was a game changer for me. My car always looks so good. Even the dealership thought it was Frozen one time when i brought it in for service. It also stays clean for some reason... so easy to just wipe down. No swirl marks due to the self healing technology the Xpel has. I have loads of pics. Check out my signature link below... also i have more pics on IG: @ste4lthedF82
