How the hell your wife makes $70k a year is unbelievable to me. I'm in the health care profession and I've never met a BSN who works in her field make that low especially with experience. Either she works one to days a week or chooses to work for a lesser salary for what ever reason.

The thread is being derailed, but two nurses with no kids who manage their money well can easily afford the situation listed in this thread, although I don't think it's the wisest choice. But hey many people do weird things for their passion, no one here is entitled to judge but I guess you're entitled to an opinion.
No idea why the pay has been so poor here in the Dallas suburbs and where we lived before in Tucson, AZ. I'm sure it has to do with the cost of living, as she made more when she was a new grad in Canada (she grew up by Toronto) and also when we lived in Seattle in 2009. She works for one of the well known healthcare companies here and has been rather disappointed with their base pay rate. She works full time, three 12+ hr shifts, and believe me it is not by choice. She is an excellent nurse and easily deserves being paid 20k+ more.

I do believe you hit the nail on the head as far as it not being the wisest choice, but then again perhaps they have a huge inheritance, won the lottery, have other sources of income.

CRNA, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist

They are most likely not basic RN's they likely have some sort of specialization that allows them to make 100k+, combine that with minimal other expenses and there's enough for 200k worth of cars...

This thread has dissolved into 2 things: how much nurses make and how much the OP is lying. The only one I can comment on is pay.

My mother in law is a Nurse Practitioner and that is close to the highest level you can be as a nurse. She only works part time in her 60's but still makes close to $60/hour and would easily make over $100K if she were to work full time. Nurses can make a lot of money, but time and experience are needed to pull that kind of money.

On another note I had a friend in San Antonio making $80K as a nurse and got a job in San Francisco making $110K doing the exact same job. So much of what you make is where you live.

OP, you probably didn't make the wisest decision from a financial aspect but it's OK. Life is short, enjoy you passion for cars. You do have a stable career, so that's a good thing.

+1

Also, why do most people assume salary is the only way to make money. For all we know OP is a very savvy investor or has leveraged his nursing background to own a successful business providing outsourced nursing services

Hopefully OP posts some pics so this can get back on topic.

We have someone who potentially has an honest and realistic point of view on GT3 ownership (which many F8X owners claim to aspire to) and everyone gets WAYYY too caught up on assumptions about OP's income

I know of several. Move out of the sticks. Male RNs, for example, are in high demand and command a decent Salary. Not to mention plenty of OT.

TBH, it sounds as if the OP is telling the truth.

Whether he has made a prudent financial decision is another matter entirely. RN's around me make good money ($100k).

Congrats on the GT3 man! I wish I had the balls to drop that much cash (or in your, case leverage the sh!t out of myself to own one).

The GT3 is my dream car. But, if it meant driving a Civic 90% of the time while the Porsche sits in the garage running up interest, I would likely also have to invest in a really good psychiatrist.

Knowing plenty of RN's and doctors in the healthcare industry, I know for a fact that the average RN clears nowhere close to $200k in "most metros" working 40 hours per week. I doubt most PCP's even make an average of $200k in most metros across the US. Anyhow, enough of the RN talk. Let's get the thread back on track and if anyone want to discuss we can always chat via PM. IF my wife can make anywhere close to $200k working 40 hrs per week as a RN I am all ears.

I went to three different Porsche dealership in the bay area looking for GT3 and my M4 being appraised for the trade in value and I was surprised that each one is saying the M3 has more resale value than the M4. So as expected I lost $17,000 on the M4 and have to swallow a marked up of $25,000 on the GT3 above MSRP. After a day of driving the GT3 one thing I learned is that it's true the GT3 is real pure sports car but unable to live with it as a daily driver. You need to rev the engine above 4000RPM all the time to really enjoy it. I don't know if I made the right decision. But to late now.. unless you drive the GT3 on the track I don't think you can really enjoy it on the street. The M4 is very capable car and can be daily driver and you can exploit more of its capabilities than the GT3 on the street. Will see after couple of days of driving it... I guess i just missed my M4.
I wish you had had a LONG test drive in the GT3, you would not have bought it as a street car.
I have been down that road with long test drives and not for me thanks, Porsche way to noisey over 70 MPH , awful road noise .
EDIT: and the lack of torque is a real pain IMO.
Since when is 320 lb feet and ultra short gearing over a 4k rpm range no tq lol . In some gears it has more tq to the wheels than a stock m4 . Just saying . Yes you have to rev it but that's why it's better .....

I say keep driving the gt3 a little more and also maybe lease the civic. Seems like a carrera S or GTS AMG GTS would have been the better solution but I'm sure you've learned from this.

Sorry for all the people judging you and on this thread I feel bad for you. You needed advice before making this move but instead people on this forum are just shooting you down. Hopefully I'll run into you sometime in the Bay Area and we can chat.

PS: always cross shop Bay Area and LA prices first then out of state I know a dealer in Michigan that is selling gt4s with no premium yet everyone in the Bay Area feels lucky if they only pay 15k over

In the tri state area? Yeah, ok. Lol. Doormen in Manhattan, for example, are Union and make $80k+. Every place isn't Montana. Lol. It's not uncommon for a port authority police officer to clear $250k/year.

Ok, so this couple of RN's make somewhere around $4 mil per year, because a subway cop on the other side of the country makes more than a Senator. Speculation is reality here. So, why doesn't he hire someone to post a picture of his GT3? I've heard that techies in the Bay Area make around $12/hr. Maybe he could take out an equity loan?

Regardless of how much money the OP and his wife make or do not make, it's incredibly dumb to blow 42k to then take out a 200k loan to drive a car that will probably depreciate like a tank once the next generation GT3 comes out. If you can afford to take a 42k hit on a car then you should be buying a GT3 in cash, not a 200k note... Hopefully you can enjoy the GT3 and pull this off but it's clear you're living well beyond your means and that is how a lot of people get into trouble.

I hear the guy working the fry machine at McDonald's in New York City makes $145K/yr working 27.5 hours a week and the 7 year old kid with the snowball stand is easily clearing $14-18K a weekend in the summer. Truth.
