That's all opinion. Sound is better, steering feel is better, connection to what the rear tires are doing on the road is better, and winding the engine out is epic. With that I love my f82, it is better in some ways, and worse in others, that's why I keep and still frequently drive my e92. Every generation m3 is pretty special and relates something about the era in which it was built. Cars evolve, but the older gens can still provide a special experience.

I dont think anything is wrong with that tq if the car is well balanced... at 3600 lbs, its a no no.

Torque at the crank is irrelevent. Gearing changes all that. I personally never felt my E92 lacked torque.

And it has 80% of that from 2000-8000 rpm- very broad curve

It's more like 88% from 2300RPM to redline (8400RPM). Pretty impressive IMO. I loved that engine

The engine sounds great at high revs. But thats about it. Exhaust sound. My F80 ZCP hands down. When he passes me on the highway it sounds so good. I told my friend that I would never sell my 335i for any other car except a E92 M3. But after the test drive. I'm not so sure I would do that. Love the V8 sound but give me the F80 any day. F80 is leaps and bounds ahead. The dude that drove my car said he's thinking about trading in his E92 now. The suspension on the F80 is ten times better than the E92.
The suspension really is that much better. I couldn't believe how well my F82 ZCP handled on the track - it felt just as good as my E92 with JRZs. People are always complaining about traction in this car, but if you want to know what bad traction is, just go anywhere near the throttle in an E92 mid corner on stock suspension.

I think I found out the hard way that I'm a high revving NA engine kinda guy. I miss the engine sound especially on cold starts. I miss the absolute predictability of the throttle acceleration curve. I miss how it pulled hard all the way to redline.
I admit it, the F80 is faster, more aggressive low torque, I can practically drive it on 3rd and fourth gears 90% of the time. I don't know why I'm not enjoying it as much as my E92
Maybe I just got used to F80 and maybe if I drive an E92 one more time I'd remember the frustration of not feeling its power till 3500RPM? not sure.
My lease will be over in a year and I was just looking up V8 NA sports cars, unfortunately not many out there. From the list I have to say only Mustangs and Corvette have what I'm looking for. Don't think I'll do that but what I'm sure of, is that I won't get another Fx.
I'm so glad that we kept our two e92 M3's. I have driven several new M3/4's in each model year, 2015-2017, hoping that BMW can restore the magic of the e90/92. I just cannot buy this new car. Just picked up a 2015 Cayman GTS and it's the first non-BMW we have bought in 20 years. The new M3/4 is a huge disappointment in our family and I feel badly for the brand because I for one wanted so much to be excited about the new car

I had an e92 for 3 years. DCT. I did love it. But it became kind of mundane to me on daily driving. Sure spirited roads were fun, gunning it around at 6k rpms constantly, but that was pretty rare. Sadly, I didn't get the chance to track it though, but did autocross it.

I have an F80 how. I like it a lot more than I ever did my e92.

I don't feel the steering is much worse, if at all. I think it sounds better. The e92 on stock exhaust was so quiet, even if it sounded good (it did) you couldn't hear it, especially with a helmet on. The F80 sounds different, but not worse. And if you are comparing the F80 stock sound to an aftermarket e92 sound, shame. And looking back, the e92 is super dated in appearance. Very bubbly appearing and especially with the chrome grills etc. The F80 is better.

But all the interior refinements, daily driver stuff is far away better in the F80. Rear seat space, front seat space, lighter weight. Everything is nicer.

If you are looking for a no compromise race car for the track, neither of these are good choices. So if you are compromising for DD ability, the improvements in this area cannot be understated when considering a car. Saying things like "it's a sports car, all that other stuff doesn't matter, derp derp" is missing the point. The interior improvements, etc do matter.

And I agree with the poster that said the F80 didn't lose it's soul, you just have to work harder to find it. Slower cars are easier to drive at the limit on the street and feel more full of soul because you are revving it out constantly. The F80 does lose in this regard. But when you push it, yea it's pretty great.

If this is the most important thing why aren't people recommending the BRZ or Fiesta ST?
