DME

Has anyone ever had their DME flagged for modification by BMW? Was just notified that my car has been flagged...

might as well run the boot mod now and dump the VR.

a flag doesn't automatically mean you have zero warranty. It means anytime your car visits the workshop the tech will have to consult bmw regarding repair procedures.

I assume if anything happens they'll just end up blaming it on bootmod.

it would help a little if he had a decent SA and Tech to help facilitate if there is an issue. But yes.

But I''m saying, since he's already flagged, might as well keep the boot mod and go from there, much more to offer than the piggy.

I agree.....Did the original owner release any of this info to you or did you get it out of the blue? I am getting screwed with BMW currently on this ever cracking MPE. They can be hard sometimes

because it probably didn't have work done prior, or they didn't care to check.

Things are changing rapidly at BMW. Imo

well unfortunately for me I got flagged the first time I took it by my local dealership when I had an issue that required them to replace a part and re program the associated cafd...

The car was regularly serviced prior to me purchasing it at the dealership the service manager worked at, no surprise. despite this, the car was not flagged until I took it in...

So I assume they blamed it on the DME tune and you had to pay?

No, they couldn't do that as the DME tune had nothing to do with the Driver's Side Restraint issue that popped up. Basically with Moss Magnuson act we have a bit of protection as consumers, they can't decline all warranty work due to something like a tune. Unless they can prove the tune had something to do with an error, they ned to fix the warrantied issue. Basically they's taken care of most things that have come up on the car since without an issue. If I were to have something like crank hub failure or something else catastrophic with the engine I'd likely be SOL as the tune would likely be pointed to as the reason the engine was operating out of normal spec and the engine failure occurred.

Anything they have declined to cover under warranty for you?

Not yet, although my SA mentioned they have to run all warranty repairs by BMW as a result of DME software flag in order to gain approval prior to doing the work...So far they've fixed an SRS and Airbag issue and replaced front brakes under warranty. I haven't had anything else besides routine maintenance done.

I was told the same thing. Thanks for the help brother. I only have the car for 15 more months so hopefully everything will hold out and I won't have any huge problems

OP,
What was the reason for the dealership visit?

As mentioned above, getting flagged does not mean your warranty is voided. If you go with an engine issue, it is almost guaranteed they wont cover it under warranty. Normal maintenance will still be covered since it is unrelated.
