DCT - prevent auto start/stop with brake pedal
Page 65 of the owner's manual says that you can prevent the start stop function of the engine kicking in at a junction by stopping then applying full brake force and releasing.
I can't get the hang of how to do this - is there a trick to it? It almost always turns off the engine. This is on the DCT of course.

That would disable it completely. This method is supposed to just disable it for that one time you are at a standstill. For example, if you stop at a junction but you know you will be moving off again in a few seconds, you can in theory press the brake harder so that the engine doesn't stop, allowing you to pull away quicker.

Don't apply full brake force. Just tap the brake like you want to slow down and then let car roll a little and then step on brake. It's like you're trying to trick the car into thinking you're in traffic instead of coming to a stop. Also, push the button above stop/start and it will do it for you. A yellowish light will go on and stay on until you change it back.

Out of curiousity as I do not have mine yet.
Should I push to disable this, will it stay off each and every time I start the car? Or do I have to push it to disable this every time? |

I would recommend leaving the engine start up/off feature in the off position. Repetitive engine ignition and shut down may cause premature wear of the power-plant. The F8x already obtains good highway and mixed highway/city mpg without this feature on. This feature was likely added to comply with North American CAFE restrictions.

But right after it turns the engine off, you can sliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiightly lift up on the brake pedal, not enough to release the brakes, but just a few millimetres, and the engine will immediately fire back up again, ready to go. It will then be sitting there idling like a normal car until the lights go green and you take your foot off the brake pedal normally.

So you have to push the button to turn the "feature" off every time you start the car. Alternatively, you can alter the ECU coding through E-SYS software and an ENET cable to permanently make the car start with this feature in the OFF position.

You could also try switching the transmission to S mode when coming to a stop - I believe this wil also disable it. You can then switch back to D when you take off again.

I must say, the description in the manual is not very clear. For me, I simply brake normally when coming to a stop. I keep the pressure on the brake pedal until I feel DCT has disengaged the clutch (no longer feel forward creep) and then slightly release the brake pedal until I see the sign in the cluster "Auto Start/Stop not active" appear . |

You can also turn the steering wheel slightly and this end re-start the car if stopped.
I just coded it off. Don't have to think about it anymore.

When I picked my car up I pushed the button to turn it off. And it stays off until you push the button to turn it on. It does not need to be pressed every time you start the car, it remembers where it was when you last turned the car off.
At least on USA models. |

If I can code it to remember the last setting, other countries might deliver the cars set that way. Australia must be ultra-strict about emissions settings.

There was quite the uproar in the first couple of years when the F30 was released. Because of this, they changed it so they delivered as last user setting instead of coding or bringing it back to the dealer for a "warranty" coding. |

I had a MY2012 335i and my wife has a MY2013 328i xDrive and both have ASS default to on. I didn't even realize they had made the change, and never noticed it on my new M3 since it was the first thing I coded off.

You think there are some threads dedicated to bitching now...you should of seen some of the ASS threads back in the day. From what I was told they rivaled the HPFP threads of the past and BMW was not going to survive the year because of it etc. |
