Poll: What type of engine for CSL models?

If you would have the decision, what would you prefer as engine for the coming CSL Cars from the M GmbH?
  • Should the M-GmbH go the Porsche way and bring the CSLs with less hp and therefor with an NA Engine?
  • Should the M-GmbH go the way to make the CSLs the Cars with the highest hp-numbers in the model range and therefor use an souped up standard turbo engine?

The CSLs would be the high cost future Benchmark car for BMW ... which way is better?

Make your decision.

Turbo engine with higher HP but with a proper exhaust system.

That's really a tough choice. Low hp would not be good for the best car in its range. If they can make it work I would say NA with a crazy high revving engine to give it a high hp.

Sorry, for the missunderstanding ... I meen not really low hp, but a little bit lower hp, just like Porsche GT3 vs. Porsche Turbo!
Or as example in the BMW Branch ... ~480hp S65 vs. ~520hp S55 ... so in any case more hp than the base model.

Well if they can get 550 hp and NA, that would be the way to go. I'm sure the torque numbers may be down a bit.

How about a NA V8 with a supercharger?

Probably too cost prohibitive to develop NA engines for limited production

A development of the S65 with 500hp and 9k rev limit would be wonderful.

I really hate the current fad for contrived farty/popping/brapping exhausts, it's like they have dumbed down the premium performance sector to Civic Type R sounds.

Induction roar is what you want in a premium performance car.

If Porsche can get 500hp out of an 4.0ltr.6-Zylinder-Boxerengine there is no reason why the M-GmbH shouldn´t get 500hp out of the marvelous 4.0ltr.S65 V8. An if they get only 480hp it would also allright für me.

Imagine an S65 with an carbon indiction System like the old E46 M3CSL (http://www.motorsport24.de/m3-e92-s6...carousel-6828]) The S65 is allready 3kg lighter than the S55 and with an carbon induction there would be some more weightreduction.
