Same. Today in fact. Could have hunted for a manual for a good long time but my local dealer is quite accommodating with trades so 6MT 335i traded for DCT M3.

I used to own a much older manual SUV without it when I lived in SF and that was something else.

The poll shows majority owning a 6MT, which is surprising as I found it super difficult to find a dealer with 6MT in stock near me. People give me a look that I'm crazy when they find out I still drive manual. Oh well.

That is because most cars are sold to non-enthusiasts, even M's. But since these are enthusiast forums, MTs are more likely to be found here than where cars are sold.

In most cases you have to order the 6MT yourself to get one - most dealers only order DCT.

Although there are enthusiasts who choose the DCT it is unlikely that a non enthusiast will choose an MT.

All my cars are manuals. And I do enjoy my manual F80. But I believe this car is better suited for a DCT. Doesn't matter because I'll keep driving manuals until they're no longer offered.

Option of clutch pedal is a MUST on gymkhanas as it provides that "Neutral" for split millisecond you need to make 180 or 360 turns (clutch+ hand brake). You definitely lose control with just DCT in certain applications.

Had a 2015 DCT f82.
If it was a manual, I still would have it.
I think the PDK is light years ahead of the DCT.

I'm actually having trouble finding a DCT with the right options but finding tons of manuals. I would love to go back to rowing my own since it's been 4 years driving automatics, so this may be a sign that I need to do it.

Plus, our other car will have the PDK, so that should be all the double clutch we need in the garage.

Voted 6MT.

I don’t care about performance numbers. 6MT is a blast to drive. People look at me funny when they find out I have a 6MT. I do not expect people to understand it, some do - some don’t, it comes down to personal preference of what you enjoy driving.

I personally would not buy a future Mcar in anything, but 6MT. I was upset when Audi did not offer the RS3 in 6MT, equally when BMW did not offer the new CS in 6MT. I love cars love driving, but w/o that option - I see less options for me as a consumer in the near future.

Very true. When i had my DCT F80, i test drove a 991.2 Carrera PDK. I too thought the PDK was far surperior to the DCT. I'm so glad i did not drive a manual 911, i would have bought it on the spot. And my wife would have killed me lol

I have a couple 911s, one is 6MT and the other is 7MT. Nothing compares to a 911 manual. You should have driven it. The sound with PSE is intoxicating. Life is too short to not have a 911. Your wife would have forgiven you.lol

Who looks at you funny because of a manual transmission? My 65 year old aunt who lives in a suburb of Milwaukee has a newer Audi convertible in 6MT just cause she's old school like that. Granted FWD/Automatics have been the standard since the late 90s / early 00s, but manual transmissions aren't THAT ancient, especially for sport-type cars. Are these funny lookers 12?

As for all of you "I would not buy a future M car in anything but 6MT..." people here's my message, wise the fuck up:

Of course you're going to buy a non-6MT car because there's no way in hell you're going to be driving around in an old slow 5 second 0-60 beater when hybrid and electrics are DESTROYING you at 2 seconds ("blah blah mods blah blah" doesn't matter, still old).

Only a non-enthusiast dumbshit is going to drive an Ole six-shiftin Bessie in an era of rocketships.

So stop with the lying to yourself: You liked it, it was a thing, but it's over, and there's no shame in admitting that you just wanted to be badass.

The shame is pretending you were in it for the mechanicals and not the badassery.

We're all in this game for the badassery.

LOL.

"Honey, Drtsk said you would forgive me if I bought a 911. So I bought one." "Who's 'Drtsk'?" "Guy on the BMW Forums." "Well, tell Drtsk, or whatever his real name is, he's dead too."

Worth a shot! Mustering up the courage now...

Quiet down over there. You're just upset that you had to pay a "non-enthusiast" tax by purchasing the DCT.
