MSC longevity

I got a set of MCS 2WNR with just under 10K miles with probably 15 events on them. One of the rear shocks is totally dead and the eyelet bearings on both of the rear shocks are shot. The local shop says that these shocks require a rebuild every 10K miles or so in mixed use. I am curious if this matches the observations of others.

Our E90 from 2017 still hasn't had the 3wr mcs rebuilt and has at least 30k street miles on it and many, many track events.

MCS has a key advantage over other setups and its precisely its longevity.

When you got them, did the rears come with the Clevis mounts attached, so you could confirm that the shocks were mounted to the clevis with the appropriate stepped spacers?

EDIT: Just realized you may have been referring to the eyelet on bottom side (assuming mounted non-inverted) -- but stepped spacers used down there too

I'll take some pics once I lift the car next week to take off the shocks.

This is interesting. Other people I know indicate that the shocks require more frequent maintenance since its a "race" part.

let's be clear: longer intervals than other (race) shocks

Even at 20k I would be less annoyed. Taking off the shocks, shipping them, and paying 1.5K for a rebuild every 10k miles seems annoying. Let's see what MCS says when they get them.

It depends on how they were setup and what happened with them. If you run them with short springs and they bottom out you can ruin them pretty quick. I know a guy that had a couple off track excursions and needed a rebuild after a few years. I have somewhere around 40-45hrs on mine and they are doing great. I do know that earlier non-remotes weren't valved very well for these cars.

I put 12k on my 3WRs, and sold the car to a friend whom has but a other 10k miles on them. This includes track time with zero issues.

Probably a dumb question, but aside from visible leaks and checking pressures, how do you know when a shock needs rebuilding ? Is it blatantly obvious? Do they blow out gradually or it is instantly?

If you pull the shrader valve out and there is more than a few drops they need a rebuild. Or leaking on the body…

As far as knowing that the shock is dead. There was no oil on the floor or on the rear control arm. So short of somehow noticing that the car is behaving weird or taking off the shock and spring completely and manually compressing it, I don't know how can you check.
