Opinion: Painting interior pieces to match car color?

Hi Guys,

I saw a Ferrari red post that inspired me to add some color to the interior of my car which is Imola red with black interior.

I was think of doing the same dash trim and steering wheel trim as the photo you see, the rest is a bit too much for my taste but I was also contemplating get the door handles painted body color too. Haven't seen it done and thought it could look good, would like to get some other opinions.

Thanks!

This is popular in the Porsche community, and Fiat does it with their 500s here in Italy. It *can* look quite good, but some people go overboard.

You might check out bumperplugs.com. That guy did some work for me in the past on both Porsche and BMW interiors and he's meticulous about his paint work.

The dash trim I did on my previous f30 and I liked the way it turned out. I would stay away from steering wheel trim as IMO it is way too loud. I even bought the shifter trim from iND and when I went to go install it was too loud for me. I have Imola also

IMO it's too much, but I'm not one of those coordinate my interior to my exterior people either. To each their own.

Color matching the interior just doesn't resonate with me. Similarly carbon fiber at every turn is also a non-starter for me. It screams tacky and overdone. I know many people on the forums do it, so it's a "different strokes, for different folks" situation.

It's a personal preference, for me I think a piece or two would look nice. If you start doing everything I think it looks terrible, same with the folks that slap the CF bits on everything but hey that's me...

After hearing everyone's thoughts I think I've changed course to do just the dash trim red and to do the steering trim in gloss black instead of red.. still contemplating the handles though, think it could be neat. Oh and just to clarify, the actual handle not the door pulls

The black apparently matches the AC/Radio trim according to the post.

Thanks are nice. Appreciates are better.

Worked for me in my Wrangler...doesn't work for me in my M but honestly who cares what others think. Until they start contributing financially I could give a damn what others think about it.

It can look good in small doses, but it's very easy to go overboard. Then you're stuck with the tacky early 2000s mod scene look.

The M3 definitely needs painted trim. With black leather the door cards are literally monotone and kinda boring. I don't know why it didn't get the gloss black trim the M4 has.

How difficult is it to remove the chrome portion from the CF Dash trim?

Not difficult at all, just takes some careful but forceful prying. Use a non abrasive tool
