Got my first speeding ticket

Well my first speeding ticket in about 20yrs,, I topped a little rise in the highway and he was about 2miles up the road on the left....and I thought Oh I have time to slow down,, WRONG!!,! Shit!,! Shit. Went by him and here he came.. Kansas Highway Patrol,,, how far can them dam radar guns go!!, ??.

Dam I was just cruising listening to Pandora...

84 in a 60 Oh well $250 to help support the State of Kansas.. at least it’s the state I live in....

Sorry

Did he get you on laser?

I drove to Ithaca and back this weekend and I was flying at 90-100 quite a lot. Had my trusted escort 8500 with me but at times I was really questioning my decisions hehe

One every 20 years isn't bad at all and $250 for 24 over isn't either. But your insurance company can make it hurt for a while. Can you attend traffic school or do anything else to keep it off your record?

Always politely ask to see the radar. If he clocked you, he'll show it. If he's bluffing, the ticket may become a warning.

Had this happen to me, told me he got me doing 75, then he said 65. Walked away with failure to obey traffic control devices. Still stinks, but I was speeding.

My first ticket ever was in the armpit of California.

I was doing 60mph in a 55mph and was pulled over by CHP officer Johnson.

Ticket was $365.

x234 on the class to get the ticket dismissed.

California has the classes but in Minnesota you ask for a "continuance for dismissal". Basically you follow the procedure to go to court over the ticket, then when you meet the prosecutor you throw out your first offer, "how about you give me a continuance for dismissal, it stays off my record if I don't get a ticket for the next year?" If that fails then you use all the tricks in the tickets arguing book in front of the judge. Your leverage is using his time, the cop's time, and the judge's time for you to argue it.

the "continuance" part is that they suspend putting the ticket on your driving record (but you usually still have to pay the fine)

the "dismissal" part is they never put it on your record if you don't get a another ticket within 1 year.

Different states have slightly different procedures and in California it's the class-taking thing ... but in MN I've gotten out of the fine too. One time the prosecutor just blanket offered continuances to everyone in the room with a speeding ticket

Net-net: go to court, when the prosecutor meets with you ask for the continuance.

What highway were you on? Noticed they were all over K-10 & I-70 last weekend. Must be the holiday week revenue enhancement program to sustain our bankrupt state.

Speeding tickets are just part of the maintenance costs of an M3/M4

Not sure I could spot a patrol car two miles away, but if he was that far away, he was likely using laser. I don't think he can get your speed at 2 miles though - that's a bit far away.

FWIW I have a V1 with YaV1 on my Samsung S7, an AntiLaser Priority jammer front and rear, always have Waze running plus I have the local traffic attorney on speed dial! The attorney is probably the best option - you don't have to go to court and waste a day, and they'll keep it off your record. Of course it all comes down to what your time is worth.

Interesting! He was a long was out there. He was the only car on the left side of the road , that’s why I though, might be a cop.... I know it was at least 2 miles out there..

I'd second the advice on lawyers unless your state law has some sort of "deferral" law, I took one of these as long as the infraction is not reckless-driving. The ticket becomes non existent in the eyes of Nexus (all insurances now use this to do background check on you, at renewal).

Last speeding ticket I got was in 1978. I was on my way from NC to VA to get a marriage license. I was pulled & ticketed by NCHP. After getting the ticket, I proceeded on my way to VA. It wasn't far to VA, only 1/2 mile or so around a curve. I doubt that NCHP would've gone in hot pursuit across the state line considering my relatively low speed.

Looking back, I think God was trying to tell me "Don't marry that woman!!"

In my experience of using radar detectors I have come to the conclusion that they are a complete waste of $$. Nothing more than a false sense of security. By the time it goes off, the cop already has you. Half of the highway patrol these days aren't even using K and X bands anymore either. It's instant laser. If you go get a radar detector and think it's going to save you from getting a speeding ticket you are in for a rude awakening.

If anything, all it does is make you drive slower and more alert because you are constantly slowing down and speeding up due to false alarms.

Some are better than others, sure...but you are better off just using your own eyes and judgment on when to speed. It's going to serve you better than any radar detector.

Also, just accept the inevitable fact that you own an //M and speeding tickets are going to happen
