M performance CF splitter install

Hi,

My new OEM splitters came with some felt tape applied to the vertical portions of the splitter. Where does one apply the 3M tape? Only free space is under neath the splitter where it meets the bumper (by the bolt hole)

I applied some 3m tape to the vertical sections, but they don't touch the bumper. It's on there, but if I wiggle the vertical sections I can move them a little.

Does this sound right?

I'm just afraid someone will pull them right off.

That's how mine are. I thought about getting thicker 3m tape. Though I'm installing the lip as well, which screws through the splitters anyways.

Hmm I'm not planning on getting the lip. Wonder if I should just pull them off and glue them.

I simply used tape, the thickest 3M my local place had, I applied it to every edge on the splitters. No way they are coming off. But I also have the lip, so they most certainly aren't coming off then.

That's definitely overkill; you could have used a chewed piece of bubblicious with the spoiler and they wouldn't budge.

My first set I only used 3M and they became loose and began shifting around after I caught/scraped them pulling out of my driveway a couple of times.

My advice would be to toss a self tapping screw or two in the bottom to be sure.

DO NOT use glue; use either BMW Beta-Link or Black RTV

I guess I should update this.

I was considering beta-link, but decided against it. On my first install, I used the 3M trim mounting tape everyone recommended here, but wasn't able to get a tight fit due to the felt that was applied by BMW.

I pulled them off (wasn't that easy!) Then bought new 3M trim mounting tape in 1/2" width. On the vertical sections, I just doubled up on the tape. Now I have a very solid tight fit, and with that single bolt underneath, I doubt it will come off anytime soon.
