M4 vs M6

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Just seen this on the tube..

Looks like the M4 can't quite cut it with it's big brother just yet.. But I expected it to do slightly better tbh..

Ummmm........why are you surprised? You shouldn't be able to beat an M6.

Not surprised as to who won mate, just how easy it beat the M4. Given the performance figures of the M4 I would of expected it to be with the M6 for a lot longer. Especially as their power/weight figures aren't miles apart.

Sorry to hear about your friend, but this race has nothing to do with me pal. Just saw the video and was interested to see people's reactions.

Start at 0 or 10mph not 60+mph. The faster the starting speed the faster the m6 will pull away. Isn't that obvious? My experience is that when comparing "motorized toys" with significant displacement differences this tents to hold true. Same with bikes, boats, snowmobiles, etc.

Lol, no kidding. Why not start at 100? A 20mph rolling start would have been very different.

I think the M6 is rated at 0-60 in 3.7 seconds...I doubt the outcome would change much.

Not surprising, M6 has about 100 more hp. It makes the difference at higher speeds.

If you avg both videos I don't think its that big of a difference. Add a few turns and it will be another story.

No, it would change by exactly the amount we're predicting it would. The M4 would hang with the M6 a little longer.

Yea it probably would for about 2 seconds longer but it still has a better 0-60 so the beating would just be a little longer and drawn out. I was just responding to your "very different story"

Yeah good point, "very" different was a poor choice of words. A little less of a thrashing perhaps. I'm honestly surprised the M4 doesn't disappear more quickly than it does when they first go, especially from 60mph.

I suppose dragging anything against anything is fun (not on public roads!), but I'm with Pack-man: there's lots of cars that will beat an M4 ... maybe the AMG S's, the new RS7 probably certainly will, probably the new AMG c-class.

None of that means there's something wrong or mis-designed or mis-advertised with the M4.

I cross-shopped the M4 'vert, the boxster GTS and the SLK55 and I never considered drag times ... of course I don't track ...

But even if I did I think I'd spend the money on lessons and track time before I'd spend it on power. And I'd probably spend it on brakes and suspension after that.

But, at the of the day like packman says, I wouldn't expect a stock m4 to beat an m6 but then I wouldn't care if it did.

EDIT: but there's one meta-physical truth: the M4 beats the M5 in every conceivable way
