BMW Weather App/Widget Not Connecting

Ok. I am old but on the iDrive I love the split screen with the BMW Weather Widget on the right side. After 3 years of working flawlessly, the app/widget stopped working right around my 3 year anniversary. I was poking around the options on iDrive and came across a screen that said BMW ConnectedDrive Apps now cost 50 bucks annually or something to that effect. Does anyone know if that includes the widgets? Thanks!

Your ConnectedDrive service expires on the 4-year anniversary. You can log in your account to check.

Sometimes, the weather widget or other BMW Online Apps get disconnected. I usually deselect the widget from the split-screen content, then select it again to force a connection.

I tried the steps above this morning and no luck. When I try to select BMW Online from the Main Menu/ConnectedDrive menu I get the error message "No Connection. Unable to establish connection via the cell phone network. Please try again later or from a different location." I have tried the former and the latter. No luck. Oddly, the BMW Connected app on my phone works. I am able to "ventilate now" from the app. I assume that uses the 3G connection.

This is quite possibly one of the least cared about threads but just in case you are interested in the widgets, here is what I discovered. I stopped by the dealer. The on staff genius told me that access ends after 3 years which corresponds to when I purchased my car. I logged on to BMW Online from the car, paid $50 and now the widgets work again.

That might be term for MY2015? My account shows an expiration date of 2020, 4 years after I got my MY2016.

The genius at the dealer said something to the effect that some features are good for 4 years and others for only 3. The widgets fell into the latter which are called ConnectedDrive Services I believe. The remote "ventilate" from the BMW app on my phone never stopped working. I can only assume that is part of the former. Admittedly I am still unclear but at least the widgets are working now.
