I miss my E92

I had an E92 for 5 years and put 82K miles on it. I was enjoying it so much but my extended warranty was soon to expire and I was worried I may get stuck with a $15K DCT bill. Also was interested in trying an M3 with more than 400 low end torque. Now after being in my F80 for 2 years and 18K miles. I can't deny it. I MISS my E92. I think I found out the hard way that I'm a high revving NA engine kinda guy. I miss the engine sound especially on cold starts. I miss the absolute predictability of the throttle acceleration curve. I miss how it pulled hard all the way to redline.
I admit it, the F80 is faster, more aggressive low torque, I can practically drive it on 3rd and fourth gears 90% of the time. I don't know why I'm not enjoying it as much as my E92
Maybe I just got used to F80 and maybe if I drive an E92 one more time I'd remember the frustration of not feeling its power till 3500RPM? not sure.
My lease will be over in a year and I was just looking up V8 NA sports cars, unfortunately not many out there. From the list I have to say only Mustangs and Corvette have what I'm looking for. Don't think I'll do that but what I'm sure of, is that I won't get another Fx.

Man, I love my f80, but I still miss my e92 335 sometimes. It was my first BMW and my first performance car. It's normal to form a connection with these machines and become familiar with their attributes. Unfortunately, they don't last forever and you have to move on.

That said I'm extremely happy with the F80 and its everything I hoped for. I'm sure I will look back longingly at it when I am driving its replacement.

I thought I wanted add an e92 because peices are good but then I started test driving them. It didnt take long for me to remember my complaints about the car. It sounded better but that was about it.

Im a MT guy though. The lack of torque in the e92 manual sucks way worse than DCT. (I owned both).

In the end im going to pass and upgrade my 4runner to a gx460.

The 2 places where I think the E92 genuinely wins over an F82 is sound and looks... pretty much ends there. As far an E90 to F80... its really only sound.

Funny, an E92 was driving by last night, and I rolled down the window to hear the sound

I miss my E93, that's for sure. But if I could choose between either a brand-new E93 or an F83, would I pick the 93? Maybe, maybe not.

The E93 was beautiful, sounded great, and was a kick in the *ss to drive - you always knew what is was going to do (including mildly understeer, but that's another story ).

The F83 is striking, sounds loud, and is a kick in the *ss to drive - you are never exactly sure what it's going to do. I think now I would find the 93 underpowered (!) at the low-end, and would miss the challenge of riding the 83 edge of wheelspin vs. acceleration - all the time. It actually handles better than the 93, but is overpowered; that's a difficult thing to complain about.

And the interior is much nicer in the 83.

So I feel your pain, but will say that after two weeks without my car over Christmas, I came back and REALLY liked it.

I loved my E92. And I still miss the steering feel in particular. The hydraulic steering is superior IMO. That to me is where so much of the charges of "soul" and "feel" come from.

But other than that I've moved on. The F8X is just a superior car. I don't look back anymore.

I love the F82 aggressive look, easy to use launch control, fresh look, exterior and interior. It runs high 11's stock.

The E92 sounds amazing but it looks too feminine expecially compared to the M4. It has a pita launch control.

Definitely drive an E9X again for a reality check. While I know what you mean, the lack of low-end torque is so noticeable on a daily driver. I did keep my naturally aspirated M5 and Z4M coupe for the same reason you note...

If you had a do over what would happen? Keep E92 or still buy F82?

Try the Shelby GT350. It's very much like the E92 M3 but much faster. 8200 redline, insane exhaust noise, very good handling. My biggest gripe was the interior quality and fit and finish.

+1 on the GT350

Don't mean to go off topic, but how do the F80 and Shelby compare?

I'm thinking of picking up the Shelby as a garage mate to the F80. Is it any good? Love the fact that it revs, but it being NA and me being at altitude I think it'll feel slow. It seems to be more emotional than the F80.

I definitely miss that engine. I think M3 is a much better daily and also plays the dual role very well. Only wish that ford built a better car around that engine. I also didn't like the clutch at all.

If they charged $10k more for a better engineered car, it would truly be something special. As you can see, I have mixed feelings about the GT350.

If they made the F80/F82 with the S65 as a factory-option, it would be an absolute no brainer for me to check off. I don't give a shit if it would be slower.

I miss my E93 enough to sell my current F80 M3 for a E90 M3 in the next month.

I really miss the light steering, better seats and, better ride.

I still think the F80 M3 is the perfect car.

OP I know exactly how you feel haha. I was debating getting rid of my E90, when I ordered my F80. But every time I drove the car, I knew I would miss the driving experience and sounds! I had a E92 before, but I got rid of that and got my E90. But both cars have been driven hard, and nothing but reliable so far. Contrary to all the forum hysteria about the car being unreliable and a ticking time bomb lol . I love my F80 in every measurable way compared to my E90. But there is something that makes me always go back to the E90, and enjoy the NA motor rev out to 8K RPM .
