I know in Canada our M3s come with FTM (flat tire monitor). But I'd like to have TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) information in my Idrive like in the US (individual tire temperatures and pressures).

Does anyone have that info in their Idrive or has anyone successfully coded their car that way?

I'm fairly certain it's possible, just want to know if anyone has done it.

Thanks.

Yes, I've done that. You need the TPMS sensors for your wheels and you need to code.

So.. Just 4 TPMS and coding?

How many sets of TPMS can the car store?

Your car only has 4 tires so yes it can only read the values from 4 tpms sensors.

If you are talking about a winter and summer set then both sets will need to have tpms sensors in the wheels.

Hmmmmm I was under the impression that you also needed the TPMS receiver and it wasn't just plug and play. If it is I kind of regret getting rid of my 4 TPMS valves.

Pretty sure you need the RDS module as well unless it's already in the car (extremely doubt it).

Vehicle will also need to be prewired for RDS.

Can you elaborate a little on "coding"? I have my 4x TPMS sensors.

I'm not smart enough to do coding myself but can recommend BM Coding. For remote coding you will need a laptop, cable, and internet connection. If you don't want to deal with all that, best to find a local coder.

I can code in TPMS with the Carly app. But once I do, I don't see anything in the iDrive screen (ie I don'T see Temps and Pressure NOR do I see units with blanked out values).

To help me narrow down if Carly does the coding properly, I have questions about TPMS.

1. So I have 4 BMW TPMS sensors in my hand inside the car (not in the tires), I'm assuming these sensors are not emitting any data if they are not under a certain pressure from a tire?

2. I have 4x track tires next to the car (not mounted on the car) which have TPMS sensors in them and are at 32 PSI. Now should the car be able to pick up the data from those sensors? Or do the tires with TPMS actually have to be mounted because there is a TPMS receiver sensor in each wheel well?

Just trying to figure out what isn't working and what is working if someone can help me out a bit with the nitty gritty...

Thanks

Likely because you are not equipped with a RDC receiver (may not even be prewired).

The receiver must be in the wheel well somewhere. I could look but I don't know where to look or what to look for.

"According to BMW docs RDC is integrated into the DSC control unit. Meaning you'll only need to install the sensors and add 2VB to FA and VO code ICM, KOMBI, DSC and NBT."

I've just copied this from another site without knowing what it means. YMMV!

Things I found out today:

1. The TPMS in my track wheels sitting in the garage next to the F80 (not mounted) are 07-09 TPMS. So those won't work.

2. In order for any values to show in iDrive, you need to drive with TPMS installed for 5-10km for the car to "learn" the TPMS.

3. The other TPMS I have (the ones in my hand) are off a 763 wheel package destined for an M2. I don't know the part number but these numbers are on them 6881891 which leads me to believe they are part number 36106881891.

Depending on what you read on the web, they may, or may not work with the F80.

Either way, it seems the only thing I can do to get this to work is to install them, code it via Carly and go for a drive...

Kanuck , do you know if the coder turned off the FTM function or do you see it working in conjunction with TPMS in iDrive? If you go to "vehicle status" and you select the top option, does it say TPMS or FTM? A pic would help... And do you see the Pressures and Temperatures for each tire?

I assume FTM was "turned off" as I no longer have that function. Just have TPMS that shows temperature and pressure for each tire. I would post a pic but my car has been undrivable since Sunday due to weather. I optimistically put summers on last week. Will post when things thaw out.

It was Sunday !!!

Yes very impressive and beyond expectations!!! Sorry for the poor organization (we had to move locations twice).

Need to improve my organization skills:
- bigger parking and better communication
- get back to the regular morning meets

Hello I am about to buy the TMPS sensor but is not clear to me if wiring and more hardware is going to be require; how can I see if the RDC is integrated in the DSC unit in my car M3 2017
