I was seriously considering Macan while I was carless between E92 M3 and no F80 M3. Test drove one too.
I wanted to like it, but it was just "meh".

Good to know. I was seriously considering the Macan Turbo when looking for a DD / track car combo. I drove the Macan S and wasn't impressed.
Also, is it any surprise the Porsche driver is wearing a sport coat and loafers with no socks? If not that, I would have expected a full race suit with his name embroidered and several patches.

The Macan held a nice lead with that AWD launch that took a few moments to overcome. Respectable!

When I canceled my M4 order, I then considered a M3 vs a Macan TT for my daily. In the end, the Porsche won out (as it almost always does with me). The Macan is definitely the best all-around vehicle I've ever owned. To me, it's like an M3, but with more practicality and a better interior. I don't consider either car to be 'fast', so the acceleration difference isn't even an issue to me.

Picking up my M4 in Oct, and my wife's Macan S in Dec.
First impression when test drove, cold start exhaust note in Macan S is way much better than lawn mover M4. I was a bit shocked by the exhaust to be honest. You can even hear the crack noise similar to M6 when changing gear in high rev. It feels nothing like an SUV and has a very low centre gravity thanks to the low engine position. Body roll in that car is best in it's class, and that is the main reason I don't like SUVs. |

I test drove the Macan S, not TT, and although I agree that the exhaust note is quite nice, I found that it was very muted from inside the cabin. I had the windows and sunroof open with Sport Plus on, and I gave it the beans. I really wanted to hear more.
However, I was used to my 991 that has a similar (although non-turbo) note. So relative to that the Macan would obviously be toned down. It did corner flat, I'll give it that. If I were in the market for an SUV, it would be the Macan. No question.

Most DE orgz don't allow trucks/SUVs on track. Even if it's a Porsche crossover.

I ended up picking up a Stingray instead, and putting myself on the list for a C7 Z06. However, I just heard the newest Viper will be supercharged and make 800HP, so I may have a change of plans, lol.

Both great cars I'd guess. Never a fan of these 0-60 times using launch control. I doubt anybody is doing that in real world except at a track. So 0-60 of 4.5 with launch control probably equates to 5 flat without, which for that kind of money ain't too impressive. I'm sure it's pretty quick, but from a roll or just a normal start without the launch stuff, I think I'd be less than blown away with it. That's how I felt it a mild tuned S4, which should post similar or better numbers. Normal driving around the power was just ok.
Now a RWD car hitting 60 in 4 flat is impressive and 8.6 to 100 mph is a quick car whereas 11.1, again is just ok probably mild tuned 135i times; which is a $45k car. On the Audio boards, most feel the SQ5 is the better pick over the baseline Macan S.

Test drove it just for the sake of it.
Macan is a very meeeeh vehicle and interior is way too kitschy for my taste. And the Porsche design... Same old crap in different variations for a century. Extremely boring and no guts to step in the new era. There is no comparison in any aspect. Last edited by Teutonic; 08-21-2014 at 04:30 PM.. |

I need to see a drag between these two stock vs stock before I make a decision. |

Who comes up with these 'drag battles'? They're retarded! They dragged an S65 AMG vs a Cayenne Turbo S!
