Just turn on the Youtube English closed captions for the video.......it translates it over to perfect English.

The M3 gets two choices of gearboxes internationally, a six-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT. The former is majorly a demand in the USA while most of the world including India will get the DCT. Choosing a slower manual ’box reminds the Americans of their masculinity according to those who do not wish to be named.
As a MT preferring non-American, I am still chuckling over that one.

Aside from that, not a whole lot of new info......

Interesting - starts off by saying that on a straightaway it seemed 'ho-hum' artificial, (including sound) but as soon as he started getting into turns that all seems to have gone away and he concludes the road day commenting on how fun the car is.

Also the track driving is on a damp track (which would be the first reviewer on wet).

Big preference for the DCT and CCB too (due to the 'blisteringly fast' nature of the car).

On the whole, another very positive review. "Perfect" everyday car and a "weapon" on the track.
In the second part of the review, when he is driving in the race track, you can clearly hear the downshifts. My god, they sound so much worse than how the same sounded in the outgoing M3. Essentially, when you downshift in DCT S5 in that car, people would move out of your way. You could use it another means of warning pedestrians in parking lots to be careful and to let them know you were coming It was such a mean sounding engine. This one sounds like crap in that aspect (or other aspects).

I think all reviews are the same :

- Faster
- More efficient
- More modern
- Better performance
- Less thrill
- Worse sound
- Less/Lack of soul

But wasn't this what everyone speculated and agreed on all this time, all these months, thousands of threads and tens of thousands of posts? So there is no surprise.
Agreed. Downshifting is great with the v8 but I'd be embarrassed to downshift in the f8x. Look out everyone it's a really large fart can civic with roundel on it. Heard a e46 the other day and those aren't bad so I don't know how BMW messed up so much with the sound on the new one.

Have you heard it in person?

Also, clearly sound is highly subjective since you aren't really a fan of the E46 M3's sound. I think it sounds absolutely tremendous.

....tough though it is, remember: don't feed the trolls....

(and of course you are right: anyone judging sound based on youtube/iphone/go pro videos and making harsh conclusions is ridiculous. Lets all wait until we experience it ourselves before we come up with firm opinions.....but that would just make sense, wouldn't it?)

I haven't heard it in person. I'm somewhat of a fan of the e46 sound but it's no comparison to the v8 and neither can a turbo i6 compare either. When I downshift it turns heads and I get a thumbs up from pedestrians when a f8x downshifts pedestrians are just going to hear another fart can. I don't know how you think it sounds tremendous. I will certainly be one of the first to test drive it as soon as it comes out and I'm hoping I'm surprised when I hear it in person since that or the M2 will most likely be my next car.

I said the E46 M3 sounded tremendous. I have not heard the F8x in person so I am reserving judgment.

So you're knocking the sound of one turbo I6 when you have no problem blindly buying another turbo I6 made by the same company?

That makes sense.

If he doesn't get thumbs ups from pedestrians, his life will be empty. Kinda makes you wonder when he'll publish his manifesto on Youtube.

Uh I haven't blindly bought anything. I'd thoroughly test drive the M4 and M2 multiple times including going for rides with local CCA members as I did with my e92 and also thoroughly test drive the competition. I'm not blindly buying anything nor basing my purchasing decision on sound alone so I'm not really sure what you're talking about.

So what makes you think that a 3.0L turbo I6 from BMW M-division is going to sound any different than the another 3.0L turbo I6 from BMW M-division?

I think you're setting yourself up for disappoinment.

The E46 M3 is one of the great sounding everymans cars IMO. Absolutely love that mechanical chuntering and hashing soaring to a sweet howl at high revs. Beautiful.

Autocar NZ M3/4 review: "One of my top 5 cars of all time"

Just read the review, done during press drives at a track in Portugal/Spain I think.

Some of the reviewers notes:

- Sensational brakes (CCB)
- Epic on track, beautifully balanced, sweet chassis, loved the steering
- Monumentally fast
- Hasn't had as much fun in a real world car other than....Porsche Cayman/911
- Loved the action of the 6MT but preferred the DCT for the car
- "One of the most accomplished cars I have ever driven"
- "One of my top 5 cars of all time"

Didn't even mention the sound

Pretty much his only negative: worried how the Michelin PSS would go on the sh*tty coarse chip roads down this way.

Thanks for posting. Nice to see some more MT comments. Seems like the only reason he prefers the DCT is because it has an extra gear. Weirdest reason this far...especially since with the TQ of the engine there is little to no need for short gearing. From the pictures it looks like the real reason could be age...not everyone is as hard core as Oregon Greg when the hair turns white
