Tracker?

In the ConnectedDrive app we can use locate vehicle to find where it is, does this qualify as being a "tracker" for insurance purposes? For all intents and purposes, I can track the car using GPS so should I be saying yes to the tracker question when insuring?

Just been doing a little Googling, apparently the general consensus is that it doesn't qualify as a tracker. Was just worth a thought.

I'd try not fitting one, who wants it back?

No it won't because the driver can turn it off.

After a fairly recent update, my M135 Connected 'tracker' only works when you within around half a mile of the car. I'm told it's something to do with concerns over privacy. I don't know if it's the same on the 3 and 4 series, but I had assumed it was?

No it doesn't. Only "approved " trackers count.
I have an old iPhone with a PAYG sim with its own iTunes account. Hard wired, buried deep.
Find my iPhone shows real-time location.
That way, should it go, I can be selective as to weather to share the info or use the gap insurance.

I often check mine is still in the airport car park when I'm abroad. Did so recently and it still works. On M3.

I'll be getting a tracker fitted on mine when it arrives. I will be using the company "Tracker".

All Cat 5 Trackers have a driver id fob - the issue with any make of Tracker is how well it is fitted.

Automatrics do a tracker which is not hard wired and you put it in the car - it fits using magnets if needed and can literally go anywhere. It is Cat 7 Thatcham approved and unlike Tracker UK can be moved between cars.

In fact, I am pretty sure even all the hard wired Trackers can be moved between cars except the Tracker UK one - and that one I am sure could be, but they just want you to buy another unit !!

That said, Tracker UK's units are the only one hard wired ones that uses radio wave as well as GPS/GSM. Automatrics does too but is not hard wired so not Cat 5 or 6 Thatcham.
