Question Rattles/creaks anyone?

Does anybody have any rattles on their M4 yet? Rattles are always the worst because, when you take them into the dealer to get them fixed, they don't know how the heck to fix them usually. Sometimes, you get the car back with more rattles because the dealer takes apart something and puts it back together. My E92 M3 had a slight rattle. It was very slight, but annoying.

No rattle but the dash has a few creaks over hard bumps. You can push on the CF trim on the dash and recreate the noise. My experience is that this is a BMW thing as all of my BMW's had plastic creaking sounds... not bad like a squeak, per se, but I notice it every now and again. The fasteners and clips they use are not noise proof. My C63 was the same. The quietest car I have owned was the Stingray... zero dash sounds at all.

I'm sensitive to squeaks and rattles (they drive me F'ing nuts) and there is nothing like that in the M4 to date... still early, however.

I drove an M3 last week and the car had a lot of squeaks and creaks coming form the B and C pillars. In comparison the M4 didn't have any and both had about a 100 miles on them.

I would really take an extended test drive if rattles and squeaks bother you. Sounds like isolating these noises wasn't the on the top of the priority list when developing and testing this car.

My new M3 has a horrible rattle coming from either the left rear back door or maybe something suspension related in that area, I agree rattles drive me nuts and not something I'd expect from a 2 week old car with 750 miles.

Feeling apprehensive as it's going to BMW tomorrow for investigation but as 2sporty says, sometimes they make it worse!

Given the interior is, in effect, the same as the regular 3/4 series, you would have thought BMW would have worked this stuff out by now. My experience is German cars have noises... they seem to care more about performance than whether their interiors are squeak and rattle free. I had noises I didn't like in all of my E90/E92s and my MB. Oh well, it gives us a chance to play rattle detective

They have made some progress the M folding mirrors (so far) don't creak on folding / unfolding in hot weather, unlike the F31 330d

I've got a small rattle in my F80 in the control box area where the dome lights are in the front. Small, not annoying, mainly over bumps. I might mention it though during my 1200 mile service in which I'm at 850 in 2 weeks already! Almost broken in!

My e90 rattles in rear doors. Original armor all on the door seals and it's gone for a few months. Drives me nuts. I'm sure f80 will be the same

Sadly, the squeaks and rattles have showed up more prominently from the e90 generation onwards and is yet another manifestation of the ruthlessness in cost savings. Wonder why BMW's operating profit margin has skyrocketed over the past 10-15 years? Ask anyone owning an older BMW and these cars were bulletproof and quality/materials were always very high. If I ever buy another BMW again, instead of opting for some $5,000 gizmo, I'm going to buy $5k shares worth of BMW stock. Great "hedge" against the cost "savings" being passed down onto me as a consumer.

OT but I loved visiting your country a month ago!...incredible golf courses there...I saw a lot more Audi's there than BMW's though, which is opposite of what I see in the states....tons of diesels everywhere.

I have one question for you, the map says Edinburgh but everyone says "Edinboro"...even tried to google it...why is that???

I don't have any squeaks yet but I do get the occasional dashboard creak and all four of my windows creak like an old wooden pirate ship. The window creak problem has been an issue in EVERY single BMW I have own which has been quite a few. Usually, the door seals are the culprit.

I remember my E92 had so many rattles within 100 miles it was pathetic so I guess I am good at 1200 miles and none yet.

Use a cloth to apply Vinylex to the door seals, the creaking will go.

Sorry man, but my E46 ///M had so many rattles emanating from the rear parcel shelf it used to drive me nuts. There was even a TSB on this over time. There were threads galore on fixing this exact problem--socks stuffed in the trunk UNDER the parcel shelf, etc. Felt pieces wedged between the rear glass and the plastic trim finally cured the problem. Also had a squeak/rattle emanating that I could never kill coming from the right front A pillar. E46 ///M famous for stiff suspension and the resulting rattles. Loved the car though.

Interesting...had the 330i 4 door and was bulletproof..no squeaks/rattles for 8 years, 120k miles and this is over horrible bay area and SF roads. Maybe a difference between M and non-M cars (stiffer suspension, lighter parts?).

Drove my M4 for 1700+ miles through Europe, and it rattled like crazy from the A-pillars and iDrive area.
