Seats Coming Apart at the Seams < 10k miles!

Anyone else having their seats literally coming apart at the seams? Happening on both outside shoulder bolsters of my '17 CP. Note the passenger seat gets very little use the car is mainly used to transport my daughter to preschool. Taking it into the dealer for them to address.

I'm almost at the end of my 3 year lease and no issues with the leather, other than some very minor wear around the bolster where I get in and out of the car.

Really it's the stitching between panels vs the leather itself.

This is interesting. I noticed back in February on my driver seat near the seat belt the seam blew apart looks like. I've had the M for one year and 20K miles. I'm not that big of a guy and I have wide shoulders but not that wide. I'll take some pics and post up.

i'm waiting til my next service to complain about this. Hopefully they'll cover under warranty.

Oh and mine is a 2017 ZCP also.

Had the same thing with my car (similar to your last picture). I'm pretty sure it's from supporting yourself getting in and out by putting your hand on the side bolster for support. Dealer replaced the seat back leather and also the foam for the bolster.

Looks similar. Very odd it is doing it on the passengers seat as well (given it very minimal usage).

The black leather in my 17 ZCP looks similarly strained at those particular seams, but has yet to blow out. Will keep a close eye on it.

Here's mine. Haven't looked at the passenger side. I rarely carry passengers though.

Wow. I have never seen something like that on the F80/82.

Dang, looks like it affects all kind of seats, I have ZCP sport seats, post #12 by knightarmor indicates that also affected.

Wonder if the thinner leather or the overlap in the stitching area is not as generous as what it used to. Never seen it before on BMW.

This has been mentioned in the past in other threads and the dealer has repaired it. I do recall some owners reporting the repair being worse in some cases, in which they complained and it was fixed accordingly.

Geez, this is not good news. Think I'll go out in the garage and look at mine.

Rubbish quality from a car maker who's standards have fallen in the pursuit of profit.

Disappointing.

Took an Uber in a Kia Sportage with leather seats. 100,000 on the clock and the seats looked pristine.

While it certainly can happen on any seat, it sure seems that it is more prevelant on ZCP Seats. Perhaps with the wide slits it puts more pressure on the remaining material so the stress point is in the upper corner where all these are separating.
I can see that happening instead of more evenly distributing the stress point.

It's because all the cows nowadays are GMO. BMW needs to source responsibly grown non-GMO, organic gluten free leather.
