MPS4S Tyres - A concern

Who was it that didn't get on with these tyres? As I remember there were a couple of people here..

It's coming up to a week now since I put these tyres on and I've covered approx 400miles in them so they are scrubbed in.

The grip is very impressive with these tyres no doubt in cold and wet conditions, but in the dry something a little worrying is happening when I boot it. There seems to be a wobble feeling in the back end almost as if something is broken in my suspension or a wheel is loose.. Never experienced this with my MPSS and it's happened a couple of times now and it does unsettle the rear end making me lift off and think WTF was that.

Anyone else experienced this, because right now I'm thinking I'd rather put my MPSS's back on

It was me

But not the rears they were awesome, it was the soft sidewalls on the front I hated, I have them in the garage at the moment and the side walls are so soft and thin it's not true.

Tbf mate I thought exact same to touch, but when I removed the super sports they were equally as soft

I’ve not put MPSS on mine (only driven it on other cars) but compared to the Conti 5P they are much improved were materially faster around a local track - as reported by my instructor not me! I track the car pretty hard and with all driver aids off there was no reduction in sharpness of turn-in or issue with balance. I think they’re the best tyre for the F80/2.

Oh and not experienced what you are referring to at the rear ... have the wheels be refitted correctly??

I've just put my PS4S back on again as my rears on the winter set were done.

They have remarkable traction even in today's low temps of 3c on unscrubbed rears as well, I just wish the front end was better.

If you use it hard on track then get yourself a propper track tyre like the pirelli trofeo R'S.
PS4's are a great road tyre but if you push hard on track they will over heat within 5 miles as with tyre intended for road use..

i have the Pilot Sport 4 S all round and feel no such problems?! they're better in just about every tangible way in comparison to the Super Sport's they replaced!

did you definitely get the 'XL' (extra load) ones with thethicker sidewall?! if not, this may be the issue?

i remember getting some Conti SportContacts for my S2000 before and they had this problem - could literally feel the tyre 'rolling' underneath the car under hard cornering, it is a horrible feeling and very unsettling! doesn't inspire confidence!!!

The load index on rear is incorrect for our cars these tyres are not BMW star rated so the ones you get although they are XL (all PS4s are XL BTW) are not correct.

Regardless the sidewalls are very thin and the front end is very soft.

The fronts are probably a rear tyre for another car hence the lack of feel from a square section tyre rather than a more rounded front tyre.

What do you run on the fronts if you have PS4S on the rears?

Im looking into these, but i remember you saying about front end feel.

I just replaced my front MPSSs with MPS4Ss and I only have a couple days on them so far but are very unhappy with the steering feel. Sport Plus feels like comfort now and the sidewalls feel very soft with some play in them. I'm thinking these need to be replaced... They are very quiet and smooth and grip well but the steering feel is awful to me.

I have super sports on the front and 4s on the rear and have been delighted with them to be honest

I have just had the mp4s fitted to my m4 and have found them absolutely brilliant compared to previous tyres. Grip in the wet has been very reassuring and actually quite enjoyable now. What other tyres are people running as I'm sure there are plenty of other good options seen as though there so cost a pretty penny.

I've just gone for another set of MPSS for my 666. I don't have traction issues with them, but I've got coilovers, GTS software, which helps hugely. I also have other wheels with track tyres and winter tyres, so they're fine for me.

Thinking of getting a set of PS4S tyres for my M4 when the continentals die. Now getting second thoughts due to this thread?

I don't want to spend £800 on the tyres if they're not the right choice.

I just fitted MP4s on the rears and still have the original MPSS up front. On a run today pushing along some b roads near me, I usually feel totally planted but with these new mp4s the car didn't feel solid in high speed bends or direction changes. Something felt wrong and I quickly lost confidence in them. They've only done 100 miles so i'll see how I get on the next couple of weeks. I will lower the tyre pressure a little and remove the rear 12mm spacers. Slow speed and around roundabouts etc they feel very good so far, even if the roads are cold today. High speed needs investigated. I got 18k miles out of the last MPSS rears.

Just confirm, you've got the pilot sport 4s & not pilot sport 4?
So MPS4S, not MP4S...

Did you get any better results from the MP4S's, I have the same issue on my M4.

I had MPSS's all-round but when they were due for replacement at a little over 12k miles, I swapped the rears out for MP4S's after reading some strong and positive reviews on them (note; those reviews were more based on M3 owners). However these new tires have all but killed the great feeling the car use to give me. The car always felt very planted and stable at all speeds and cornered wonderfully, never felt uneasy on breaking or tramlined, but now the car does not inspire any confidence, breaking is horrible and faster pace driving is a very uneasy experience, in the end the only gain is in wet conditions where they are certainly offer better grip. They've got around 2.5k under their belt now, no real change, they got slightly better but not even remotely close to what I was expecting or experienced from the MPSS's. I've tried playing with the pressures, currently running 2.8 in the rear (2.4 front on the original MPSS's), tried lighter pressures originally, more around factory settings, but no lower, maybe thinking about adding a little to the rears?? Any ideas?!

Really surprised to hear negative reviews of Michelin Pilot Sport 4s tyres, they have transformed my M5 and everyone I know also thinks they are amazing.

Even online and YouTube owners comment on how good they are.

Completely agree and have managed to test them in all conditions now and speeds. Have certainly got nothing but good things to say.
