Now that's strange. Two examples of this both San Marino Blue?

Does the factory show more respect for this colour because of how awesome it is?

I wonder if it's something specific to that paint. Perhaps it's single stage and doesn't require clear?

I doubt it. I would be curious to see under the hood of a San Marino M6.

Your engine bay is clear coated... definitely not polished. Maybe it has something to do with the durability of the SMB base coat, it needs the to be sealed with clear coat?

Not with the car at the moment, but I will go and give it a better look see. I didn't think mine looked as shiny as the OP's pics.

Skip to 2:50, you can't see anything under the hood. It's all plastic.

You mean at 2:57 not 3:50. Also you can see the inside of the hood and it definitly is not cleared.

I saw a san marino blue f8x at the dealer that looked the same as yours. Maybe it's necessary for that particular color...who knows

It's not necessary because the M6 doesn't have it so.

Individual colours, under the bonnet (hood)

At a recent meet, we discovered that my fire orange under the bonnet was like satin effect, on the underside of the bonnet, inner wings etc.

While a San Marino blue M3, was gloss everywhere and painted just like the exterior, looked stunning.
Sort of odd why one would be satin and one would be gloss and laquered.

So, question to individual paint owners, what's your under "hood" painted like?

Tanzanite blue here , no clear coat. Also where the door hinges are no paint at all, just primer. Kind of annoyed, did a thread a while back and got flamed for it because " you really think you bought a luxury car"?

If you look at some of the build threads with cars that have individual colours the engine bay does look like it's clear coated as well, I was told by my local dealer principle that individual painted cars are clear coated under the hood.

Yes, the underside of the hoods and most/all of the engine bay on some/most Individual cars are clear coated. My '17 Nardo Grey M4 is the same way. It was the first thing I noticed when I popped the hood on my car. Here's the photo that I posted of my hood in the Underhood insulation thread:

Tanzanite is not an Individual color in the same vein as San Marino, Nardo, Grigio, etc. None of the regularly available colors (...nor the extension colors that can be ordered without getting approval through Individual........e.g...Tanzanite, etc.) will have clear coat.
