However, on the the F8X, the 18" are forged and seem very light in design. It seems the 18" wheel/tire combo will be the lighter option this time around. Last edited by CanAutM3; 05-27-2014 at 08:11 AM.. |

Are you kidding? Spacers are very common on m3's (go check out the e9x M3 section). There's nothing wrong with them if installed correctly.

As you sated, the 220s, combined with 18" tires were lighter than the 19"s on the previous M3. Unless the in the new M3, you have cast wheels in 18" and forged 19's, then the 18" should be lighter. Actually, these look forged to me by how thin the spokes are. TUV is very, very strict on wheel strength and I doubt a cast wheel with such thin spokes would be strong enough for TUV rating especially with how much torque is working against them. Also, if you look at race cars, they actually have sidewalls! I think these wheels are great if you are more into function than form because there little penalty in style. Good job BMW. |

Does anyone know if these are forged? After closer inspection there is quite a bit of meat on the spokes. |

On the E9X, the 18" 219M were cast. The optional 19" 220M were forged. The other optional 19" 359M from the ZCP package were also cast. The lightest wheel tire combo on the E9X was the 19" 220M wheel with 19" tires. The 18" 513M for the F8X are confirmed to be forged (see picture below from the parts catalogue, geschmiedet means forged). So it is likely that the lighter setup will be with this 18" wheel on the F8X. Sadly those wheels are not available in Canada, I would have seriously considered them. As you said, good job BMW . Glad I ordered the 18's. This was the one thing I couldn't make up my mind on. I'll sleep much better tonight having seen these pictures. Thanks for posting! On a side note...now I'm second guessing my color choice (mineral white). The mineral grey looks so bad ass.
