Doesn't need to be compared to a V8, there are lots of good sounding 6 cylinder engines. This just isn't one of them (in my opinion).

Sigh... N54 imo was already ?? in the sound department but M4 really takes it one step down. S54 was always really controversial too.

Long live the days of deep rumbly aggressive I6's. M54, 2JZ come into mind when I think of awesome sound straight 6 motors.

I agree. Gotta give it a chance especially hearing it in person and under load I think it sounds good. But accepting its a TT I6 is the 1st step to moving on from the shortlived V8 days. Not that one engine is better then the other but v8 takes the sound title over all IMO even v10's. That's why I still think people can't let go of the legendary S65.
