I might not be the best source, since I don't drive the car much, and I rarely take it outside of Austin city limits or Travis county.

But I have passed multiple cops many times and no one has ever cared that I haven't had a front license plate.

Agree - I've been in Austin for 8+ years and <knock on wood> haven't had an issue with the lack of front plates from police or toll booths.

So I think once I get my car back from the body shop (still waiting. Had to order the front left fender from Germany) I'm going to trade my M4 in and pick up a 2016 M3 with the competition package. I really would like four doors. Does anyone here have the competition package yet?

Can't fully decide yet on what to get but anybody here willing to give me a ride in their F80 M3? I'm both in Lakeway(aka Apache shores area) and Downtown Austin. Just wanted to get an idea of how one drives. Thanks in advance

Likewise - 5+ years and my only "incident" was a State Trooper pulled me over just outside El Paso for no front plate. And then let me go with a warning.

I heard today that BMW is opening up another dealership where the old theater was on the east side of IH35 near William Cannon.

Anyone know if that is true?

Yes, Rick Hendrick is opening a BMW dealership on the motor mile...on the east side of 35 at the old Tinseltown movie theater. Hendrick vs Penske and no, it's not a NASCAR race.

I think BMW of Austin is great, but competition is always good.

My comp package M3 finishes production next week...so hopefully driving it around in month, if you haven't seen one by then! There are some good pictures of them on the Photos thread, but I haven't seen one in person yet either.

I have been stopped a couple of times for no front license plate. Both times were by DPS while I was on the toll.

Once on 45 and once on 130. Both times I was lucky enough to get a warning. Off the toll, no one seems to care.

Its really a coin toss. I kinda like the idea of a quick disconnect or something of the sort.

Seconded with the DPS warnings, though outside Austin and not on tolls. I haven't had a front plate for the last decade. Of the many times pulled over for speeding etc, not a single police officer or sheriff mentioned the front plate. DPS seems to enjoy giving warnings for it though for some reason!

I was warned by a State Trooper on my way back from Phoenix once. But that's once in 5 years.

Yes.. It is going to be at the old tinseltown on I35 south frontage rd on motor mile.

It is going to be a Hendricks BMW.

My neighbor is going to be the general manager. He is at Audi now

Love that color! If you are ever downtown or around Westlake, look for a Silverstone M3. Will keep my eyes peeled for your frozen black M4!
