Don't mean to spoil the party but anyone leasing an M does not technically own one.

I'm turning 30 in January and wanted to buy myself a birthday present - in no way is this a midlife crisis deal. I just really love the bodystyle of the current M3s and have always wanted to own/drive one. I work hard for my money and am not a trust fund baby.

Looking to gather some insight across the forum on the age range everyone purchased their first M3. Was it too early/late? If you bought one early on in life, if you had the chance to do it again, would you have waited? Thanks in advance you beautiful people.
Started on a 335M Sport at 19 and now waiting for my M3 at 22! Responsible driving is key.

Exactly. Very few own an M and many lease/rent one

Americans like to get what they like and later figure out how to pay for it. Banks love us.

Americans like to switch cars every three years with ZERO hassle. Pull up at lease end drop off in 5 min. Done and Done.

AND there is something called European Delivery. Maybe you've heard of it? We get to drive our ///M cars on the Autobahn and Nurburgring etc etc....every three years.

You guys can keep "buying" your cars. I'll keep doing ED every three years. Wonder who is gonna have more fun

Was 49 when I bought a carbon black M E46 with cinnamon interior. Still own that car and upgraded to a M4. I still enjoy driving that ol’gal.

I already got responded way earlier lol, but got my first F80 at 26 and here we are 2 years later placing an order for a 2018 F80 :P I bought both of them. Don't like to lease as this next one is one I plan on keeping for a longer time than my current one.

Had just turned 26 when I bought my first M car a 2008 E63 M6. Absolutely no regrets I am so glad I got to experience that car especially in a time when it was one of the fastest things out there (still is on the highway). Went to a 2013 E92 Comp package after that and had more fun in that car than any other to date. Wife and I are 32 now and she drives the M6. I DD a beat up rusted truck for work (do maintenance on family rentals a lot of which isn't in best areas of town) and drive the 991 on weekends. Looking forward to picking up an F82 lci comp package as soon as we can make a deal as replacement for the m6.

I say get in these cars as soon as you can - especially the older generation that revved out to 8k+++ and sounded like God's gift. No point in waiting till you're older because by that time you might be in an all electric computer that drives itself!

Well haven't taken delivery yet, but placed an order for one. It should be here at the end of January. I'll be 43 but feel 12.

Eh, depends on how you look at it. I leased mine for one big reason. I live in a big city and accidents happen all the time. All cars I've owned have been rear ended or side swiped, all not any fault of mine. One car had frame damage, and I returned the lease no problem. Wouldn't want to own that car. Could I have bought it? Sure. To each their own though.

If that's the case no one owns one even if u finance the car until u pay the loan off which is less than 10% of the population

You guys have a mind block against leasing

+1. I had always just taken the party line that leasing is a bad idea, but GrussGott had a great explanation of it from a risk point of view somewhere around here that made me see the light. There are good arguments for either method and I've done both. Just know what you are getting into.

Just placed my order for my first BMW and my first M. Can’t wait for my 2018 MT6 ZCP. Have always had japanese cars but have always dreamt of an M3. Doesn’t seem real.
