Engine Whine. Normal or not?

2016 F80 Manual
ASD coded off
Can't say I paid attention to this earlier but this Whine is rather annoying. Checked my brother's 2016 DCT and that doesn't have it. Just want to confirm with anyone who has a manual though I don't think this is tranny related. Goes under and down with rpm. Idler pulley bearing?

Update: 11/28/17. The culprit was the upper Deflection Pulley. It's been replaced. Noise is gone.

The engine may sound different for a few mins after the AC is turned on or off. Is that applicable to your experience with the noise?

Nothing to do with AC here. This is prevalent with AC on or off. Just checking to
see if this is the characteristic of this engine or I need to get checked out.

Thanks. Checked and sounds close to the alternator. Setup appointment at the dealer for Monday. Surprised it would do that at only 11k miles.

Looks normal to me ,maybe engine sounds like that. If it drives fine I don't think you should worry

Apparently it doesn't sound like that based on the responses I have gotten. So going to get it checked out.

I agree it's not normal, that whine is not present on mine. Curious to know what the service center says.

I went and reved my car and doesn’t sound anything close to that sir, seems abnormal. Keep us informed !

My M4 does not sound like that at all. I'm quite sensitive to noises in my vehicles. Please keep us updated.

Thanks guys. Diagnosis at the dealer is the idler pulley as expected. Will get the car back tomorrow. I'll post the part# that was changed as there are few of these idler pulleys.

Wasn't the case. Always be aware of change in sounds other than just performance

I could either whine about it or wait for the pulley to fail and take out the serpentine belt with it.

No worries. I am familiar with your posts. Always entertaining:. Am waiting to hear back from the dealer. Didn't expect the idler pulley to go out at 11k miles but happy it's under warranty
