The exhaust note did not bother me one bit, Perhaps I believe form follows function. If the car is fast, what else matters? Even formula one cars tend to be high pitched. Anyway, whenever the M3/M4 hits it is going to be one heck of a ride, and wicked fast too.

I have to get in my mind that it will never sound as awesome as the v8.....I'm sure the car will rock no doubt.

The M3 V8's soulful sound will be missed. No matter what exhaust they throw on, it ain't gonna be the same. Just hearing that M3 following the new car in the video was like a glimpse of the future, and it ain't good!

They might as well throw in the fake engine sound piping over the speakers.

I wonder how lighter is this m3 compared to the current model? It will sound ok once it's finish but won't compared to the current model. But then again the m3 always had a 4 or 6 cylinder sound anyways so not bad.

The four door looks better so now the BMW m4 or whatever will use the same motor as the 335 just some upgrades right

For all of you complaining about how the car looks now with that all that camo on before actually seeing it when it's completed, I despise you!!!
Just know that BMW plans its every move and they hire the smartest engineers and car designers which show through the vehicles they produce, this car will look amazing, and all the haters will be drooling when the final pics are out. To BMW, keep doing what you do, to everybody else, let them do their thing lol

It better not have the typical turbo heat soak and limp mode after a short session.

Wish they would make a NA version for the track, kinda like the 911 w/ the GT3 (or even the Boss302).

FI street guys can have fun, and the track junkies can still have their reliable NA.

Nothing sounds like a V8. This sounds like a vacuum.

Sounds like complete crap, more like a fart can equipped civic.

They're still working on the mufflers, but I don't understand why anyone on this board would think this sounds even remotely decent, or would even think about comparing this to the current gen M3.

I guess they'll have to pipe more sound into the cabin, hey maybe by then they'll attach speakers to the mufflers to fake outside exhaust sound too!

THe CTS-V is a M5 competitor, the upcoming ATS-V would be a M3 competitor.

The FI system will be a key to the level of success the car has both with purists and many journalists. The deciding factor in my opinion will be the power delivery and throttle response, specifically if BMW M achieve no noticeable turbo lag. The sound can be tuned with aftermarket stuff (well of course it will never sound as good as the S65), the revs will not be 8k but it will probably be pretty decent around 7500 and the car will most likely be lighter and surely more powerful. Given Ms heritage it will almost for sure be another class leading car. However, I don't think any conventional turbo system, the fancy cross pulse (or whatever it is called) intake of X6M (even if it could be adapted to an I6), a multiple turbo set up or a variable compressor vane system can eliminate enough turbo lag to satisfy the M heritage nor the purists. If they have an electric turbo or some other system and it works that will satisfy everyone, purists, lazy ("I want massive low end torque") drivers, journalists, etc.

Let the M4 to M3 badge movement begin.

Won't be hard to change the badge over after purchase. It would be funny for the bean counters to see everyone online switching their badges.

I'm with you, alabama. I had a 2001 S2000 that I drove for 8 years, and Honda never improved on that engine. Hell, they took a step backwards midway through the car's life by dropping redline by 1,000 RPM. Nothing that Honda makes now lives up to the F20C because they got off the wagon that requires constant iteration and improvement, and I don't foresee them ever creating another engine that meets the specifications of that one. Same goes for BMW by ditching further development on the S65 in favor of a revised N55.

An enginereering equivalent of a copout if ever I saw one.

Am I the only one who thinks that the 4-Series F30/32/33 looks less attractive/aggressive than the E90/92/93?

I was never a fan of the E92 M3, I think it lost its aggressive looks compared to the E46 M3 and now appears even more so as an M4.

IMO the best looking 3-series M-Sport Coupe (not 4-Series, why oh why did you do this?!) is the E92, the best looking convertible has to be the E46 (closely followed by E93). It looks like BMW's styling division needs a kick in the ass.

The f30 series is bigger than the e90. It is approaching the size of the cts-v. Not to mention they are the same price. I don't care what you read in a magazine. The point is these facts make them competitors

The 335i is raced on a drag strip, the M3 is raced on track. But the next generation M3/M4 will also become a drag car, and not a track car.

The new m4 with 6 cylinder turbo will be awesome. Period.

For the one owning a 335i.

The new M3/M4 will be a success, because most buyers will be the previous 335i owners. The current M3 owners will step over to Porsche, Mercedes AMG or Lexus.

The M3/M4 will be faster the the current one. More emotional ? No.

I keep reading "But it'll be lighter, more powerful, and more efficient than the current M3."

So is the Corvette, 911, Mustang, etc. Everyone assumes that it is destined to be great, destroy competitors, and perpetuate its status as the benchmark. I thought that about the current M5 as well, but that fell quickly. MB and Audi are the better driver's car now?

I'm in the camp that thinks it sounds fantastic. I played it on my Apple TV through my surround speakers and subwoofer - oh ya!

Maybe you should consider a hearing aid?
If you don't like it, don't buy it. Simple

Yeah, break out your crystal ball and tell us what else will happen in the future, ye with little faith. I currently own an M3 and I'm looking forward to the next Gen.
Faster than the current one? Yes! Lighter, Yes!
Just because you live in a world of denial and assumption doesn't mean everyone else does

And some people assume that it will not. This can be argued both ways. Don't kid yourself
