If you haven't already it could well be worth calling round some of the specialist brokers. A quick google search suggests there are quite a few who specialise in high performance cars and young drivers. Also be wary of no claims bonus being used on multiple cars, it's one of those nasty insurance grey areas and the last thing you want is your insurance to be invalid.

Kaz, have you tried the various comparison sites? 21 with 1yr NCB, no accidents/convictions etc and am paying £1400 through Admiral with declared modifications. I found calling up was a waste of time, the moment you mention "factory options" they just lost their minds. However sticking to either the comparison sites or direct to the insurer through their online portals gave some decent quotes. Churchill and Admiral however are still the only ones offering any (sanely priced) cover for me at least.
To add, I did try a few brokers but lack of experience on a 'high performance vehicle' (400bhp+ was their idea of high performance, previous ownership of 330d/335d etc didn't count) meant it came out far too high. |

Well done for a start - Getting an M4 at 21 is good going. Make sure you enjoy it sensibly!
As for me, I'm 28 and have gone through Churchill. Got a quote for £1200 so took it. Look to add people on to it that you know have had a driving license longer and with no claims (even if they live in a different household) e.g. Your mum. I did this, as well as my girlfriend and it brought my quote down. Neither have a hope in hell of ever driving it |

I'm mid forties and just had my quote through at £330.
Some advantages of being an old bastard (well older than some on here).

Don't forget your post code can make a massive difference as well. I tried with 4 different ones and the difference was about 2k.

36 years old. 10 years NCD. £300 with direct line.
I found direct line to be well over £100 cheaper than anyone else and I don't think they're on comparison sites. Work quoting direct on their website.

Post code makes a big difference. I won't even talk about the midlands you all will know why its expensive.
Everywhere i tried was like young driver and high value vehicle! Think 4k is the best i got and that's annual payment can't pay in monthly either. Just time to wait for the car now i guess. |
