iDrive 6.0 on my 2017 M3!

A client just coded my car to run iDrive 6.0 "Lite"

I have also been using 6 Lite for a few weeks now. I like the tiles and cleaner looking fonts of the 6 Lite.

How do you like it?

I was always a fan of iDrive 5.0 menu system, my favourite thus far. I'm still not sold on the main menu of iDrive 6.0 yet.

6.0 just looks more like something u find on a table screen, big basic windows, like a dumbed down 5.0.

5.0 menu has more a polished and integrated look to it.

I'd just love to be able to get 5.0 on my 16's!!!

when my wife took her 428i 2016 to the dealership to get her iDrive 4.0 upgraded to 5.0, they told her it would be available in February so check with your dealer

Okay, maybe I should have been more clear, for our slower members.

I wish I could have a FULLY FUNCTIONAL version for my 2016's, without losing any existing functionality

I'll take a functional iDrive 5.0, over partially working 6.0.

I have a feeling the dealership was mistaken. It may be possible to update idrive 5 to 6(officially) starting in Feb and not idrive 4 to idrive 5+. I hope I am wrong.

press the "Menu" button while in the home screen. Then turn the iDrive controller to go to the tile you want to move and shift it right or left to move the tile. Depress the controller when you want to exit that view.

I don't find anything about it less functional. I'm really enjoying the 6 lite and have no plans to switch back to 5.

I think I like 6.0 Light in general, but the only advantage is the tile screen. I don't usually drive like this, as I prefer to have Nav on main and media on split. For this reason I don't think it has much value to me.

I've also noticed that Pandora doesn't seem to display correctly. Album art does not show up on the split screen or the tile. Artist/song labels as well as album art are shifted/overlapping in an odd way on the main screen. See video:

I've been using iD6 for a few weeks now and really like it. I just leave it on the main screen with the live tiles most of the time.

Constantly tweaking the tile layout and still can't find out a combination I really like!!!

Just went back to ID5 Plus Plus last night. I couldn't stand the broken media displays for both Pandora and Spotify. It really detracted from the overall polished look of iDrive. I do like the three active tiles layout of ID6 but I mostly use the split screen layout with maps and media displayed.

If anyone can figure out how to fix the media displays, I'll definitely code back to ID6_light.

What hardware would be needed?

The head unit and HD screen. I would look on the ETK or getbmwparts.com for the latest PN. I don't expect it to be cheap. You may have to wait for parts dismantles to start pulling them from wrecked 2017 cars to get them for reasonable prices. Expect to pay at least $1500 for the headunit and screen. You might as well update the iDrive controller while you're at it to the newer style.
