Chassis Stabilization error code
went to grocery and started my car back on all of a sudden "Chassis Stabilization , drive moderately" showed up,Anyone knows what's the cause or anyone had the same issue?
Car has about 20,000miles, never tracked, only daily driving.

Happened to me once. Stopped and restarted the car. No more error and no issues since. Brought it to the dealer a day later and not only did they not know what I was talking about, but they claim that when they checked the car there were no errors in the log.

Those dealers are so full of BS. Most important check control messages that appear on iDrive are logged and remain in the car for a while... If you had diagnostics software you will see it for yourself. Probably won't do you any good but they can't BS their way around...

weird, maybe it's just a software glitch, don't know if this could be fixed by a software update or if they fixed it on newer model year

OK, so 6,311 miles and I use my '16 M4 the same way OP describes above. This error popped up when I was backing up from my local Starbucks. Wouldn't let me change any settings (like switch to M1 mode...).
After having the car parked at work for 4 hours I started up the car and no errors. Do want to note that when the chassis error came on I also got the "Collision Warning Malfunction" and "Pedestrian Warning Malfunction" displays as well.... I used to get those collision and pedestrian warnings only when my M4 was parked in direct sunlight on hot days. This go around it appears to be tied to the chassis warning. WTF? Anyway, thought I'd add my experience to this thread. Anyone ever find out what the problem was? Cheers, -Tony

It's the ICM. Mine's an April build and it took a dump 3 weeks after I got it. Unlike you lucky gents, my code never cleared and a new ICM had to be ordered.

Be careful with this. I was at M track days and a guy had this happen while he was on the track. He spun out and slammed into the wall. He was ok, but the M4 got banged up pretty good.

Integrated Chassis Module. A bunch of sensors talk to this module hence the multiple error messages. It's apparently a rare hardware failure for our cars but it does happen. When the dealership attempted to order a replacement part, there was a nationwide part freeze and I had to wait 2 weeks to get it. I believe BMW knows there are issues with this unit hence the freeze but that's just my speculation.

Found out it wasn't my ICM - because it happened again this last week. It was my electric power steering module. Had to have my entire rack replaced. So far, so good.

I had the same thing, ended up being solved by some intense coding by some guys I know.
In short the car was reading my steering incorrectly. As a result a few things weren't working correctly, most obvious the turn signals were no longer turning off when i straightened the car out. |
