I hate being the guy that criticizes free events, but since i did dole out for a hotel, drove 7hrs rt, plus all other misc fees, this came close to $750 for a mediocre experience.
as a driver that tracks maybe once a year (read rarely), i was pretty disappointed. Each lead follow lap was painfully slow. I thought it would get better once i was behind instructor but we ran into lap traffic, so both my follows were at half speed. This was the only portion of the driving stages i was interested in so it was downhill from here. Im glad i went but the formatting needs tons of work. Kudos to instructors and all staff there for entertaining us for a week |

The event is a marketing strategy on bmw's part. The idea is to give people the opportunity to get a feel for what the car feels like at high speed. It is best to think of it as a extended test drive at a higher speed. I can see how this event would seem "slow" for some who have tracked their cars before but this was just not that kind of "day at the track freebie"
By the way, I got an email invitation to pebble beach event already. Anyone else got it?

This about sums it up. Expectation and reality did not align, it happens.

I actually thought it was a pretty good day.
What I wanted to learn: is the M2 really waaay better than F8x? Answer: They are pretty different beasts. I'm a novice (at best) track driver and even I could point and click the M2 right where I wanted it to be at pretty much all times. The M3, on the other hand, was doing it's best to keep me from killing myself, slowing me down in the process. But, on the straights... Whoa Nelly! What I was surprised by during the day: Holy cow it is hard to get into an i8. Most disappointing surprise: The M5 was nice and fast but frankly, didn't feel special enough (interior or straight line speed) to significantly distinguish it from the M3. That being said, I didn't get it on the track and I still respect it as being the banner carrier for the M division. Most pleasant surprise: The X6M. I fully expected to hate this thing. It's fat, bloated, pointless and (admittedly subjectively) quite ugly. But, it had the best sound of anything on the track and it truly has some get up and go. Most dreamcrushing surprise: M6 convertible. Full disclosure, my dream car has been the M6 Gran Coupe every since it was announced. I was super excited to get in the M6. Unfortunately, even in a straight line (drag race) it felt slow, fat and happy. Luxurious interior, crap on the get up and go and it brakes like a Brinks truck. So disappointing. |

I learned that the M3/4 is still the one M car to have

I would agree with you statement but I was impressed with the M2 and X6M. For the former, if my goal was track use with minimal straight-aways, this would be a strong consideration vs. M4 (coupe only for me). Though I don't like the styling of the X6M, I could see the value of an X5M. If I decide to downsize to a single vehicle that could support all of my activities, this would be it.
Both the M5 and M6, while luxurious, did not impress me. Size, being to large, was a factor. |

from a modded 335i to power of an m3/4 i was not so exited, i had more fun driving the m2, also for a side note,
I went on the 13th at the 8am session, I got in to a m3 loaded with M performance parts, set my self up, i 6`3 275lbs so it takes time to get comfortable, we drove to the track from the parking lot, as we went to grab our helmet and come back we find 2 pieces OF S--T sitting on the car that i had already set my self in, and of course i ask hey man i was in that car, he did not have the balls to talk to me, so me and i even ask what car did you rolled in, so the instructor said just take any, we had to wait till everyone got on their cars so we can see what car was empty and get on it, later on the day i over heard someone say that asswhole just took the comp pack m4 that i just came in, DUDE WITH THE BLUE T shirt LEARN YOUR MANNERS YOUR PIECE SHT, have respect for others. |

I checked the website this morning and was able to switch my previous reservation and got an confirming e-mail almost immediately. Do you have morning or afternoon on Sunday? To be safe, you should probably call 866 231 4269 to make sure you are on the list.
