Just not feeling the M3 at all after a week
Pretty much regretted buying this 17 M3 since day one which was only December 23. I had hoped it would somehow grow on me and actually tried to trade it yesterday for a 911.
Lol, BMW dealer in NC where 911 is I want offered me $62,000 for my 17 competition package, executive, full leather, LED, driver assist and etc. with 421 miles on it. I am pretty much keeping the RPMs below 5k to 55k very occasionally. Do these things loosen up and get more exciting in the higher revs even though so torquey down low? I was willing to give up some styling for a bigger back seat, but the performance is not even blowing me away. Am I missing something? Do these things getting better with age? Give it some time to break in and loosen up... Take it on a road trip get the 1200 miles, then report back once you can go full wide open throttle and throw it around a bit. |

Can you elaborate what it is that you don't like about the car? Are you comparing the car to something else like a 991 911 or something more within it's league? I have a hard time understanding how you purchased the car and then a week later want to get rid of it. Buying a car is a process, it's not like putting in an order through Amazon Prime (yet) lol.

You could have given it a test drive and saved yourself some money.
Or you should have just bought the Porsche from the get go and saved some money. 911 is a no brainer, plus the M3 and 911 are so close in price... should have just swung it.

Just trade it in. The longer you wait the more it depreciates. Life is too short to live with a $70k+ mistake. If you don't like it now, you won't like it 6 months from now.

I agree with the above poster. If you don't like it when it's new, you're not gonna like it later either. Just bite the bullet and trade it in now and lose only $20,000, than to lose more later on while still not driving something you like.
The question is, why did you buy the car in the first place if you didn't like it from the test drive?

You must had too much money to just buy it and then realized you didnt like it. I wished I had that kind of money. Why didnt you test drive it and then make a decision. :
Sounds like more of an impulse purchase. Good luck on getting anything close of what you paid for. |

Definitely wait for break-in. Although the low-down torque is nice, the feel and the sound of the S55 (at least with ZCP, the only real experience I have) near its 7600 red-line is just fantastic. You're going to take a financial bath whether you trade it now or wait for break-in, so to me its a no-brainer.
Of course, most of us on this board know that car decisions are often based on emotion rather than logic. So, GL either way!

Says the person who chose a 2017 F80 M3 over a 911. Okey dokey. Anyway, as I have owned numerous 911s, I can assure you they have gone downhill since the 997 generation, which ended in 2012. The 991.1 had a PDK-rigged seven-speed manual transmission, which was horrible compared to the Getrag 6MT in the M3 and is still the one fitted to the car today. And now the 991.2 has a small turbocharged engine. Not to mention the fact that they have gotten huge. Sadly, today's 911 is nothing like the 911s that made the car iconic. With all of this said, I certainly agree with you that OP should have test driven the car first!

Sell it private party if you are worried about how much you are going to get. I've sold all my old cars private party. Even with a tax break that my state offers I still come out on top.
And to answer your question... Q: Do these things loosen up and get more exciting... A: For 14 months mine has continued to make my wang elongate every time I dive it! Best family sedan on the market imo.

Well judging from the name of the OP he's either coming from a 996tt or an elise or possibly both. I never owned a lotus car but I know what the 997 drives like as my brother has a 997S and also owns a 2016 M3. Both cars are manuals. He says he has just about as much fun driving the M3 as he does taking the 997.1S out.
I have a 2017 M3 ZCP and I do share the sentiment of the OP to a lesser extent. However I didn't break the car in yet so I can't make any proper judgement. If OP is following proper break in recommendations then I can see why he's not impressed... Like others have suggested break her in and go out in a rampage and see how that makes you feel M |

Don't put more miles and more months on your car just to find out you still don't like it after the run in period...if you can be without 5 seats and 4 doors then porsche...most of us it's our only car so it has to do everything...not much out there does everything you need

If the car is not for you, just put it up for sale and buy the car you want. If you don't like it from the start, it's not gonna change.

If you mod your M3 correctly, you'll be faster than a 911 Turbo S.
