Break in inspection at 100 miles - at dealer, need quick help
At dealer now trying to get my inspection sticker because I bought the car out of state.
I took deliver of the car less than two months ago. Car has 100 miles on it. Production date of 10/16. The SA told me the break in inspection is due. He was very vague in his explanation of why I need to get it done at only 100 miles. Basically he says it's based on time because oils break down. None of this adds up to me... Has anyone ever experienced this before? Any recommendations? Update: spoke to the shop foreman. SA was completely wrong. Waiting for 1200 miles. Last edited by kdu3; 02-25-2017 at 11:54 AM.. |

I was rushing to post this since I was at the dealer and needed a quick answer. Took the time to read this section after and realized it's been relatively well covered. The car tells you from day one to do the service, but you wait till 1200 miles.
This was my understanding as well, but the SA was arguing with me and was very condescending. I let the shop foreman have it in a very professional way. I'm almost as upset about the way the SA handled the situation as I am with the fact that he was incompetent. I expect more when you buy an $80k car. Hopefully there is a follow up service survey. |

100 miles break-in? That SA has to be joking.
If oil broke down that quick we would have to change our oil every time we filled our gas tanks.

yup, that SA sucks. It's hard to find a good one. Lots of them are just sales people, the best are former techs.

I got my car 2 weeks ago. Built date 10/16. I took delivery at 72 miles and currently has 170 miles. At this pace, I won't hit 1200 miles for a LONG time.
Should I still wait until 1200 miles? or can I do it before? |

The shop foreman told me that it's best to do it as close to 1200 as possible. His reasoning being that they find all kinds of crap in the fluids and you want to wait long enough to get all that crap out of the engine and differential into the fluid before doing the break in. I plan on waiting until about 1,000 miles. It's taking forever and I'm still only at 350 or so.
