M4+M3 ED pickup with visit to the Nurburgring 24 hour race & M Festival
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com As the planning went underway, I came to find out that the time I blocked off for the trip would allow us the chance to incorporate a visit to the 24 hour race at the nurburgring AKA the M festival 2015. We were also able to take advantage of the unique pull ahead program on my wife's 135is (meg180 from 1addicts) and she got a phenomenal deal on an M3. So a dual his and her M3/M4 pickup was now on the drawing board! On arrival into munich, we were picked up by a private chauffeur in a 530d, courtesy of BMW, who dropped us off in our hotel in Munich. The next day we were off to the Welt for pickup, which happened to be my birthday as well. We went through check in, and it was unbeknownst to me, that my wife had informed the Welt of the special day as well. I have to say that BMW really took care of us that day, made it an extra special day with some gifts and pictures and when it came time for the car delivery, I found they put a big birthday bow on the M4! very cool indeed. Our delivery specialist spent a ton of time going over the cars with us, even going the extra step of programming a custom 3.5 hr Bavarian drive for us into the nav system. After taking the obligatory pictures, enjoying food etc, we were then off to a visit we had arranged for that day at the M studio where we had a private tour. The people working there are awesome, really passionate about M, and it shows. We were taken to the private garage where all the secret M toys are. On the way to the garage we saw some prototypes including the camouflaged M2 prototypes and LCI M3, just parked there, but of course, no pictures allowed. Same idea in the garage, we saw some more M2 and the new 7, but some really cool older cars including M3 CSL, the M1, E30 M3 and evo. I did find an old video on youtube that sort of gives a flavor of what it is like down there. After the M studio visit, we followed our delivery specialist's advice, and did a beautiful drive around Bavaria that took about 4 hours. We brought some walkie talkies and did this in tandem style which was loads of fun. The next day we were off to the Black Forest, where we explored some beautiful roads, even picked up a cuckoo clock, which is one of the things the region is apparently known for producing. Lots of thumbs up for the M's, and I have to say that these cars are phenomenal on the road, especially the autobahn! We made our way up to the Nurburgring, stopping at the Pistenklause Restaurant at the Hotel am Tiergarten (home of Sabine Schmitz), where we had the steak on stone. Place was packed, tons of beautiful cars around in preparation for the upcoming 24 hour race. We saw some familiar faces from the internet, including Chris Harris. After a good night's rest we then drove into the Nurburgring, which itself is a giant car mecca. We had been here before, tracked it as part of M school and for tourist days but never been here for a race. What an amazing site, the people, the cars, the excitement, let me say that it is something you have to do at least once if you are an enthusiast! We checked in as part of the BMW M festival, private garage parking included and free shuttles to all the parts around the track. BMW had a private hospitality tent with direct view of the track, and tons of things to do and see. We got to do paddock tours, meet the drivers including Augusto Farfus, Dirk Werner, Lucas Luhr, Jorg Mueller to name a few. Mingle with them, pics etc. Tons of food to eat and they unveiled the new M6 GT3 race car that they will be using to replace the Z4 GT3. The race itself was an amazing experience, from walking pit lane to seeing the start to getting out to the track at night and seeing the race up close. People set up bonfires and it was something to see. The race was hard fought with some mechanical issues into the night but the Z4's made it but unfortunately narrowly fell to audi, coming in 2nd place behind the R8 who won. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvfbZ1Hl9zY Back down to Munich after this for a little more driving and then drop off. The time went by so fast -- now the waiting for redelivery!

That looks like a trip of a life time! Congratulations on the double M cars purchase.
I'd love to collect from the Welt and on my birthday too. Have been trying to plan it for a couple of years now. Unfortunately it's not going to happen as BMW in the UK don't seem to care enough about their customers to provide anything as special as this. So jealous. |

Now, that's the way to do an ED!! I'm working on my wife from now, to convince her to do the same, when the Gxx comes out. I did my ED with my best friend, but it would have been a better trip with my wife. Enjoy your cars, in good health!
