MPE tips beyond repair?

I just purchased a used MPE and it came with carbon fiber tips. The tips were super dirty so I tried to clean them but only made them worse.

I saw a video on here where someone used Chemical Guys citrus wash plus water and he had good results… so I tried using hot water plus Optimum No Rinse but now they look horrible.

I attached a before an after pic.

Is there any way to fix this? I’m wondering if these tips are even OEM or some crappy knockoffs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Garage List
Which one is before and which one is after????

Ok, just kidding.

What is it you are trying to correct?

Have you considered trying to hit them with a buffer?

How about a layer of clear?

Wet sanding them with progressively finer grit (800k, 1k, 1.5k, 2k) and then hitting them with a polisher should bring back the shine. The clear has taken a hit from the heat and probably neglect.

I’m trying to make them look somewhat new again. It seems like the hot water plus ONR messed with the clear coat or something.

I’ll trying using a buffer and some polish. I’m not sure how to add clear but I’ll look into that. Thanks!

I’ll give it a shot. Thanks!

I’ve been looking for some fake ones but all of the ones I’ve found are for the stock muffler. If I can’t recover fix my current tips I’ll continue my search for some knock offs

These just have a single t15 torx screw that screws into the bottom of each tip. It doesn’t have the clamp/bolt like all of the aftermarket tips I’ve seen.

This is not a real MPE tip and that’s not real carbon fiber . Just buy some different ones instead of wasting time trying to fix because they’re not fixable.

Machine compound the carbon fiber and use a metal polish for the tips with a drill and polishing cone. Worked for me. You can’t do anything about the clearcoat other than reapplying it which is another pita.

After doing all this my tips got dirty in a few months. They’re meant to look like that.

You can definitely sand it down a little bit and apply a layer of clear, satin maybe. The tips on my akrapovic exhaust were way worse due to rubbing on the diffuser. Anyway, I sanded the tips and applied clear satin. the section that rubbed has gouged the carbon so no hope there. they're not visible any way but the tips do look great now.
