Well I guess I am one of the fortunate few (or unfortunate depending on your perspective) who has a CP car with cloth seats and 6MT. I love the look of the cloth seats and also wanted them for the performance reasons already mentioned (better grip, better resistance to heat/cold). Time will tell regarding durability. I am no upholstery expert, but the cloth, and the leather, on these seats by no means feels cheap or low quality.

As far as re-sale goes, well, I didn't buy this car with resale in mind. I bought it to enjoy it (and I usually keep my cars for a long time, I still have my 2005 M3, which I purchased back in 2005 ). That being said, if I were to sell it, I don't think I would have that much of a problem, compared to some of the more commonly configured F8X's out there. This is due to the rare aspect of the configuration as was already discussed.

My F80 configuration:

- Individual Color - Smoked Topaz Metallic
- Competition Package
- Cloth Seats
- 6MT
- Carbon Fiber Roof
- Other Electronic Goodies: HUD, Backup Camera, etc

I found this car sitting on the lot, and it was not a special order that somebody backed out of either. The dealer ordered it as part of their normal inventory (at least that is what they told me). When I saw this car, I knew right away it was an "enthusiast" configured car, which would require a special type of M-car buyer. Well I was that buyer, so I jumped on it since this is how I would have ordered one (and I was able to take advantage of multiple $$ discounts since it was a car on the lot).

The car had been sitting on the lot for a little over 2 weeks by the time I bought it (took a week to negotiate the price I wanted to pay ). Would it have sat longer if I did not see it? Possibly, as I mentioned I think this an enthusiast configured car and the buyer for this car is a smaller subset of the F8X buyer group. I will say this, all the guys at the dealership really liked this car more compared to the other, more standard configured F8X cars on the lot.

I definitly have no regrets.

Agree with you that if it's 4-5yr old buyer will change but at 2 yrs it's still a lot of cost for most people to overlook the lack of a key feature (that $12k new cars have)
It's unfortunate since your car reeks of base model and I don't mean this in an offensive way. Its very basic when you consider it's Alpine white, 6MT, cloth, no exec pack, etc. When I used to shop used cars I'd go for the fully loaded ones as they were only a little more.

You'd have to wait the right buyer who wants your car as a track toy and those people aren't looking to pay top dollar since they're gonna thrash the car anyways. You may have to just hold out for the right sucker, er buyer, or lower the price. GLWS!

my consignment contract has a $52k minimum payout so that's how much I expect to get. I'm ok with that since it was $60.4k pre tax via euro delivery ($66.7k total purchase cost including Ca tax)

Getting a barely optioned car vs paying for a lot of options is still my preferred way to get a new car. As you pointed out options barely increase the purchase price.

Edit: my replacement for f80 has full leather interior and despite being 14yr old it does make the interior feel a lot nicer. It doesn't change that I would have ordered cloth in dec 2014 but does make me more cautious in the future. Likely I will get leather unless it's a fixed back racing shell seat and will get parking assist regardless (it is getting kind of old to have get in and out of my car in tight spots to confirm spacing!)

I like cloth/leather or alcantara better in sports car. The seats are grippier when cornering and hard braking and they stay cooler in the summer here in SoCal and they don't get as cold in winters. As many of you have read, I like function as much as form. Leather is nice on girls and couches but not really a fan in sports cars. So my top choice is the cloth/leather option. My 330i ZHP has Alcantara Cloth and I love it. However when I was shopping the E90 with speed-cloth in 2011 I found it abrasive and actually considered getting the leather over the speed cloth even though I really preferred cloth. I really am wondering how the new cloth looks and feels. I love the Alcantara interior offered in the M235i in Europe and I have only seen configuration pics of the M3 cloth seats.

If you are performance minded like me and also prefer cloth over leather and have seen and felt the cloth seats can you give me your feedback?

Thank you.
I was in my friends 600bhp 2017 m3, primarily used for track. We drove it on a 250 mile road trip.

He got cloth seats, yaz blue, stock wheels (not upgraded 19s), 6 speed MT.

I fell in love with it... it's M at its simplest, but it also its greatest.

The cloth isn't luxury... but it's classy sport. Doesn't feel cheap at all.

Thanks for the pictures!

I'm about to pull the trigger on an M4 ZCP and I'm thoroughly considering the "cloth" seats.

The front seats do look quite nice, but I'm still on the fence on how they look in the back.

I've read through almost all the pages of the comments here and I'm still undecided.

It's either this or full Merino leather...

But hey, at least I settled on the color

If you get leather, you should get full leather. The dash and door tops with the stitching are worth the price of admission.

The one thing with the Carbon Cloth that can't be captured in the pics is the tactile feel of it. Its very tightly woven and feels like carbon cloth for lack of a better term. It feels strong I guess is what I'm saying.

This Hyundai Accent looks nice with a cloth interior too. Looks tactile and sharp in the carbon fiber weave.

16k MSRP nicely equipped.

I can't really say squat since I'm waiting for a like new full leather '16 ZCP to come around with 20k on the odo for 52k. I'm thinking that's going to be around May of next year.

Picking up a SS/cloth F82 ZCP in 2 days. Sat in the cloth many times and it's amazing. IMO if you ever plan to track the car it's a must. They keep you in place amazingly well.

Why a 16? I'd get a 17 just for the upgraded iDrive 5

Unfortunately it doesn't. Only the 17s had iDrive 5 and 18s have 6. There was a big jump in hardware going from 4 to 5 which allows you natural speaking voice control. ID6 just adds touchscreen (alone isn't worth it) but of course 18s get those nice iconic LED lights.
