MPE muffler can splitting on sides?

My MP exhaust muffler has a crack in the passenger side wall and one is starting to develop on the drivers side too. Car was in to ECS Tuning for some ride height adjustment and R & D for them. Their tech pointed them out to me just to let me know. He said they have seen it before. Car only has 12k on it. Anyone else with this happening?

I made an appt at local dealership here in CLE Classic BMW. Grey area here is I am third owner to the car. Bought it with 6k, has 12 now. First owner leased it and turned it in 3 months later with 800 miles. Second owner put a little over 5k on it. Then I bought it. Car was originally titled in 12/14. So MP exhaust is warrantied for 2 years but I'm hoping that's not to original owner only? Hoping they can work it out for me. They have been really good to me on my 335i for service so far so I'm hoping they can help out here. If not it gets welded but I'm hoping BMWNA springs for a new unit and just swaps it out. For 5k exhaust I can't imagine this happens with only 12k mileage no way that's right

titanium doesn't just "crack", and a street driven car cannot exert enough stress on the metal whatsoever, especially a non-moving part like a freakin muffler. i'm assuming it's near the welds, therefore simply a manufacturing defect. id be very surprised if BMW doesn't warranty this which is quite obviously a manufacturing issue and not a user-based one, third owner or not. good luck!

So are they replacing the whole thing? or just repairing it?

Only minor thing I'd hate about replacing it is having to break it in again because it sounds so much sweeter after a few thousand miles lol. But I'd rather get a new one as well

They wanted to look at it first, taking in car Tuesday. Rather have a new, we'll see.

Can you post a pic that wasn't taken on a Palm Trēo?

I'd really like to actually see the broken weld.

Ok I will get some pics posted up. It's not a weld crack on mine. It's splitting horizontally across the can like a weak point? Unfortunately I just got word today BMW is not going to help with mine since they can't verify with BMW dealership in San Diego installation so I'm SOL . I have to find someone who can weld titanium it looks like. Kinda sucks but it doesn't effect performance and the sound is loud either way so I'm not going to replace it at this time. Maybe some day but for now I have to fine someone who can weld titanium locally in CLE and go from there

I just had mine replaced under warranty less than 2 weeks ago with less than 8K on it by my dealer after I started hearing a loud rattle coming from the rear on cold start. They also replaced my carbon tips too.

Note: Mine was purchased from and installed by my dealer. But that should not matter.

That's odd, it shouldn't matter if the MPE is legit. All BMW stuff should have a part number and logo to verify it is BMW's OEM things.

I'm surprised they aren't going to help you with this. Is there any reputable aftermarket locations near you that you can ask?

They know it's OEM exhaust they just can't verify when it was installed. I have no receipt for it as I am the third owner of this vehicle. Supposedly dealership in San Diego has no record of installation so they can't verify age of exhaust. They will warranty it if I could produce a receipt which I can't so they said they will not cover it. Shitty thing is car was titled in San Diego to original owner in 12/14 so it's not 2 years old just yet. The exhaust has to be less than 2 years old the car wasn't even on the road 2 years ago. I thought of trying another dealership. IDK for the 5k it kinda really sucks to go out of pocket to replace this at some point. Car has exactly 13k now. I'm going to have to try and have it repaired I guess

lol Age?

Comon BMW the oldest any F80/F82 can be now a little over 2 years, maybe. What age lol. If you are in San Diego, you can try contacting some Los Angeles dealers here and see if they are willing to help or any of the well known aftermarket places here to see if they can help. AutoTalent, Supreme, eAs, Mod Bargins... etc
